The things some things buyers ask!!?

I was just woundering if anybody had experienced the same........

My buyer has today asked me to cancell/transfere our phone line to the new property, so that they can have their own line installed at my house, the reason for this is that they do not want to have a break in their broadband connection.

Obviously I would need to be without a phone line for 10 days!!!!, "but I could use the one at the other house!!" (empty, I do have the keys though)

My answer is obviously No!, i wounder what else I'm going to be asked!!

I think this may be more common, Pipex have given the following advice:

To make sure you get PIPEX broadband connected up at your new home as close to your move date as possible, your Seller (previous owner / occupier of your new home) must cancel any broadband service they have on the BT line at your new home.
We would suggest that you check with your Seller whether or not they have broadband on the BT line (at your new home) and if they have, we strongly recommend that you ask them to initiate the cancellation of the broadband service well in advance of the move in date and that they specify a cancellation date that is at least one day before the move in date.

i had the worse customer service EVER from pipex - it took them nearly 12 months to refund me some money

what rubbish advice - the seller has to do nothing to satsify the buyer

  • The first thing I look for with properties I've been looking for is if I can get cable broadband, but I would never dream of asking a seller to disconnect just so I can have it installed the second I move in. I can live without it for a few days or use it at work heh :)

Very cheeky to have asked though :D

Avoid pipex like the plague. I cancelled mine when I moved and was given a cancellation reference number. The 'call centre' staff just make up random numbers that no one recognizes when you ring back. I then recieved letters of impending court action for cancelling the direct debit etc. It went on for months.

Thanks, that's good info. I think the thing to do is get the person's name and if possible email addy at work and then email them and EVERY other email you have for Pipex stating that you understand they have now cancelled your service with reference number 'blah' and that they should contact you if this is not the case. And I mean EVERY - email the cancellation dept and the help dept and everything else! If even one mail gets through then the company have been fully informed!

I recorded every call I had with pipex and blogged about leaving them - and it went amazingly smoothly. :)

I did that and all I got was automated replies saying they couldn't discuss my account due to data protection and I had to provide my name, address, telephone number , account number on the email before they would reply. This info was already at the top of each email sent.

Its OK saying you have fully informed the company (I sent recorded letters too) but they don't take any notice and hand it over to debt collectors - even though I didn't owe anything. Because I had moved house I did not want someone wrongly entering a CCJ against me at my old address just because they wouldn't sort out my simple cancellation request. Google 'Pipex problems' and you'll see I wasn't the only one.
