i've worked in insurance for 10 years many in claims, so please don't take this the wrong way.
The way I look at it is
If someone broke in to your house tomorrow and took every thing or heaven forbid there was a fire
You now have to replace everything
beds
sofas
clothes
tv
compter
kettle
mirrors , you get the picture
could you afford to replace it all?
like i say its your choice but it is worth it.
no no i don't take it the wrong way don't worry, i just genuinely have never given it consideration as i didn't see myself as having anything expensive. however i see your point the cost of the above all adds up.
got it! thanks x0 -

If you had a flood or fire, flat was broken into and vandalised, and all your clothes, furniture etc.was destroyed would you have to replace it?
i'd never thought about it like this, thanks x0 -

I never had contents insurance although it was always on my list of things to get around to. One day my buildings insurance provider phoned and asked if I would like to add contents cover - thankfully I said yes because 3 months later we did have a fire in our house and apart from paying for replacement furniture and goods, coming to clear up the mess afterwards was the biggest thing I'm thankful for. Luckily the fire was contained to one bedroom and the living room below it suffered water damage and that was all fully redecorated.
Saying that, both my contents and buildings insurances have lapsed and it is back on my 'to do' list. I was a bit worried about the weather blowing down a tree or fence in the garden so I must ring them Monday morning.
One thing to look out for when you are getting insurance is that they will actually cover a bankrupt. No point in paying their premium if they won't pay out if you need it.

thanks x0 -
Confused
I get 35k of contents cover for £8 per month with bradford and bingley and I declared the bankruptcy its in my policy. Cost will depend on your postcode claims history and amount of cover though
