Hi, I would be really grateful for some advice - I need to replace all the windows and external doors of the house with uPVC double glazed windows - 3 bay windows each with 5 frames; 1 pair of sliding patio doors with 2 full-height windows on the side; 1x2 frame windows, 1 kitchen door, 1 bathroom window, kitchen window (3 frames). 1 composite front door. Got 3 quotes, with the lowest being £9,500 for all, or £8,200 without door. Windows are Kommerling made, A rated, low-e. The installer refused to lower it. The price seems high. Is this reasonable? Please advise - many thanks!!

Use the above site to get a good estimate, without filling in forms and wasting time. Their price include fitting.
But they don't include 5 frame bays in their online prices system.. so might not be any good to you!0 -
We fit the kommerling brand and rate it as the best on the market having fitted over the years most of the other better known brands in the industry. The quote you have had is for 3 bow windows i presume (semi circle) which take a lot of work propping anything above with acrows .the patio doors must also be on the large side but without measurements i cannot be sure wether your price is high or notif you think peoples advice is helpfull please take the time to clicking the thank you button it gives great satisfaction0

240x120 (3)
120x120 (1)
240x120 (3)
240x101 (3)

Window: 86x210 x 3
Main door: composite 4 panel

240x120 (3)
180 x 118 (3)
This was Anglian - a good product it seems.
Hope this helps?0 -
Many thanks for responding. That's useful. The Anglian seems to be cheaper than the quote that I got. My quotation of £9500 includes the following:
3 bay windows (angled, not curved):
2 side panels (70x180), 3 panels in middle (198x180) - toughen glass required.
2 side panels (70x130), 3 panels in middle (198x130)
2 side panels (70x130), 3 panels in middle (198x130)
Sliding patio doors (198x222), 2 side panel (70x222) - toughened glass required. Kitchen door (80x203), window - 3 panels (145x120)
bedroom window - 2 panels (110x130)
bathroom - 1 window (95x103)
1 composite front door
I was told that the door costs £1400!0 -
We've had a window quote and the composite door bit of it is just under 1k. If they are quoting you £1400 for it they are over charging IMO.0

Worth getting quotes from smaller local companies too. I thought Anglian quotes were quite expensive when I've had windows & doors done in the past & so have never used them. The bigger companies often inflate starting price so that they can 'discount' prices 'at the managers discretion'. I have heard of up to 60% off being given. If you know exactly what you want (& it's the best, or important) you can only compare like for like quotes.0

Hi,
We had ours done last year with a local firm.
All windows and doors are 28mm pilkington K units toughened where required.
2 x 5 window bays
front and back doors (£650 each including large window with privacy glass)
Small kitchen window
remove existing dining room window and brickwork and replace with french doors installing steel lintol and replacing brick soldiers.
Provide all sealants & fixings
Clear all rubbish away
Arrange and pay for building notice (£70 as not fensa registered)
This all cost £3690
I was very happy with his work and he's even offered to come back and replace the trim at the top of the bays that we had to take off for boarding the ceilings, all for the price of a cup of tea!
Good luck in finding a good quote!

For those who might be interested: I made some changes in the design of windows and reduced the price to £7,200:
no composite door, no kitchen door, reduced kitchen window to 1 frame (1 window)
2 bay windows with 3 frames (5 windows)
1 bay window with 3 frames (5 big and 5 small windows)
Pair of French doors (instead of sliding patio doors) with full-length fixed window on both side
1 bathroom window
1 bedroom window (2 windows)
It's a local company using Kommerling 58mm UPVC windows.0 -
Had a young lad come round today. Got the usual hour about his company etc etc special offer only today etc etc. Got a price of £23000 for 13 windows and a door. Forgot to tell him till that point my friend is a manager for weatherseal in Scotland. Price dropped to £12500. Dont think he beleived me so i called my friend and passed him on. Got all in for £6000 top of the range. Even friend said he would not be able to do any better if i lived in his area. £17000 less than original quote. Funny that!!!0

This company have just tried to chisel you for £23000 for a job which it turns out, very quickly, that they are happy to do for £6000, and you're still happy to have them do the work? Seriously?0
