Driving lessons: driving in darkness
Comments
-
Generally no - unless you specifically request one at a time of darkness (night driving isn't tested in the test or motorway driving - for motorway you can do pass plus later on)0

Whilst I was learning I learnt only during the day, however I took pass plus which included motorways and/or higher speeds, rain, darkness, etc I found this so useful to build my confidence and I still get a discount on my insurance when i mention this I passed 10 year ago! (I recall it was 6 hours extra tutition after I got my licence).0

As part of a standard driving test - no.
As part of pass plus, yes.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
i learnt in a car with headlights0

Ask your instructor to take you out in the dark on a lesson, they usually don't do it as a matter of course....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I am asking this because the driving log says something about driving in darkness. http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_4022720.pdf
By the way, my driving instructor doesn't use the driving log mentioned above. He just writes down what he has taught me on a sheet of paper with my name on it. So I'm just using the driving log to see what topics of driving I will be learning next. Any of your driving instructors use one?
About the discount on the insurance when passing the Pass Plus course, is it for all insurance companies, or certain ones only?0 -
only certain companies
a lot of my friends say its a waste of time as you just need to go out with an experienced driver who you know. Also the cost of the course is often more than you save
im sure others will have some positive views though0 -
If you have your lessons late afternoon, you'll be driving in the dark soon enough; the clocks go back this Sunday.
Although you won't do your driving test in the dark, you can ask for a lesson any time you like, day or night providing your instructor agrees. If you don't ask, you'll never know.
As previous posters have said, Pass Plus does include a night driving module, but why wait? It's good experience to learn all conditions before taking your test.0 -
I did pass plus - it cost £150 ish, and my local authority gave you £75 to do it (annoyingly this finished just before I did it!), and Quinn knocked about 15% off my insurance - might not sound much but I got £300 back because of it...Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

Indeed, as well as the fact that at this time of year, it can turn dark very quickly, so whilst your test will not start in the dark, it could well turn dark during the test.0
