Why do we need to spend god knows how much money on new facilities - why not just use the facilities we used in 1948? Although these days even a lick of paint will go drastically over budget.
  • Olympic whingers make me laugh. Also those who still bang on about the "Millennium Dome"- the O2 Arena is now a hugely successful venue, hosting profitable A list concerts and sporting events every weekend.
    They are an EYESORES!!!!
  • Why oh why wasnt the olympics held in one of the other british capitals , is this not the third time in london which is now one of the most expensive places to do anything and gridlocked.

It could have been held outside edinburgh , belfast or cardiff and impacted the economy far better and for a cost much cheaper.

You could easilly have did it in the ourside of edinburgh , served by both glasgow and edinburgh airport making policing and counter terrorism alone so much cheaper.By siting a village/new town on the outside of a small city like edinburgh and within easy non congested access to the motorway it would have been so easy.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

    Here we have it really.

You live in London. Dome and Olympics are good for you.

Live outside? Then you're thinking whats the point and expense.

We might as well just be honest about it though. We are a London-centric country, and it isnt going to change anytime soon.

I think the olympics are a waste of money. They will not generate anything like the wealth legacy that has been forecast, as I think has already been proved by the vast expenditures made by other countries in the past. In our current economic state they are a luxury we can't afford. If an individual was bankrupt and was planning a mega luxurious party to celebrate a birthday you would call that action financially reckless and irresponsible. Countries should run their finances in the same way that responsibility individuals do. Cancelling them now might bring home to the country at large just what a bad state our finances are in, and hopefully set a good example on the inveitable sacrifices which are yet to come. But show me a politican who has got this kind of courage!

You hear stories of how cities are still paying for 'games' which have been hosted.

Will the bill for part of the London Olympics be picked up by London taxpayers? How do they work out the split?
