Danger danger

Hello all, I need some advice regarding a washing machine fire we had recently, It was an Indesit washer WIL103UK, luckily we were in and able to put out the fire quickly so no great damage was caused and no one was injured. My main question is because the outer drum is made from flammable plastic and I have been told all models from Indesit are now plastic(polyflex?)do I have to accept a replacement which could burn as well as the last one. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE APPLIANCES SUCH AS THESE ON AT NIGHT OR UNATTENDED. We could have been killed or lost our house and pets. What happened to safety standards.

    • Don’t leave the washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher running overnight or while you are out. They are a fire risk because of their high wattage, friction and motors."

Out of hundreds of Indesit washing machines I've sold made of plastic, I've not seen any burn. Indesit will be well aware what their washing machines are made of and will put in shielding and ventilation to stop them catching fire.

You have been unlucky with a faulty machine, but that doesn't mean a replacement will do the same.

    Great thread title :rotfl:
  • I never go out and leave washers, dryers or dishwashers going, my poor guinea pig would not be able to escape.

If they had shielding and vents to stop fire why was my house minutes away from being engulfed? Why someone should be allowed to use flammable material next to a heat source is total stupidity, very reassuring to know that my loss or death was caused by a rare event.

Because the machine was built faulty.

I'm not sure there are many untimely deaths caused by common events or we would have abandoned them.
