I've heard loads obout Costco, is it kind of like Makro but cheaper?? How do you get a card? .

It is a cash and carry but you have to pay an annual membership. Not everyone can join though. If you don't have a business you have to be a member of an eligible professional body or work in a certain area (i am NHS so can join) It's not always the cheapest as mentioned before.

yes PP! self confessed list-a-holic :p :pmsl:

we are aiming for about 14 people - may go up, may go down. planning is still in very early stages - only came up with the idea yesterday tea time :D

im not going to be bbq chef... i will be 'mummy' lol, so i'll probably do most of the prep work on the fillers (have already enlisted a friend to help  ) and we'll leave the men to play with the fire :j

havent decided on meat quantities yet.. im going to get in touch with people and ask their preferences. no point buying loads of sausages if people would prefer burgers ;) we'll probably aim for around 3-4 pieces of meat per person though. i think that should be plenty, considering a) the amount of other food there will be to eat and b) the wait between each piece of meat..after all, its going to be quite time consuming catering for that many people!

I must be a total 'mingebag' too then :rotfl: , because I always provide the drinks, salads, jacket spuds etc but ask everyone to bring their own items to barbecue - then there's no waste and vegetarians can bring corn cobs or Quorn whatever and don't feel left out.

some companies allow it as part of their benefits, uf you work for a company check with them.

Well we had the bbq, every one had a great time, but only 7 people in the end showed up so the freezer is stacked full of stuff. I went to the butchurs for the meat but feel that it would have been cheaper and probably just as good out of a supermarket, or possibily Costco. I did how ever go to the supermarket Asda for odds and ends, crisps soft drinks etc etc.

But all in all it was stressfull not knowing who would eat what etc etc. So, I told every one to just bring their own food the next time.

Good luck to all that are having a bbq soon !!!

As already suggested keep extra's in your freezer, that you can use if need arises. If you don't use it it will be there for a later date. Better than cooking loads and wasting it. I find sausages, burgers, garlic bread, onion rings, pizza etc are favourites. Hope this helps.

MIL had a family bbq yesterday for 10 adults, 1 teenager and my 2 kids. She did sausages, burgers, kebabs, chicken drumsticks, belly pork and pork steaks with bread-rolls, roasted potatoes and lettuce and tomato as extras.

For goodness sake with alcohol don't do what I did. I took some passion fruit liquor which I bought in France, you add either orange juice or lemonade to it and it becomes like an alcopop. I left my glass whilst I sorted daughters food out, then I got my own. Later I looked for my drink and couldn't find it. Then I looked over to my son (aged 6). To my horror there was an empty glass just like mine in front of him. When asked yes he had finshed mummys orange juice off, it was very sweet  .
Thankfully he wasn't ill and I'll keep a closer eye on my drink in future:o
