OS way to brighter whites?

To keep whites white, only wash them with other white things. No sneaking in of light coloureds etc.
You could also use a powder/liquid with "optical brighteners" in.
Depending on the fabric, you can also buy stuff to restore whiteness. It's usually in little sachets and can be found in the washing powder aisle.0 -
I work in hospital this is my tip............
Buy Napisan (for babies nappies) it is in a box and a powder add to your white wash.
Its an oxy based product, usually I get mine in Sainsburys near the baby stuff.
The best Powder is DAZ for whites.
If you use a fabric conditioner use a white one, usually the sensitive skin type.
You can buy a whitener called Glo White by Glo Care in Tescos ! SUPERB for shirts you get 5 sachets in a box Box is blue with a little girl with a hat on the box.
My washing dazzles the neighbours they ask my secret and in the school line my daughter loooks outstanding !0 -

I have tried so many things for my son's school polo shirts I even started a thread on here asking for help!
One lot have been soaked in star drops, then washed (stll grubby) so washed at higher temp with stain remover and waashing crystals (still stained) today I have soaked them in bleach and washed them for a 3rd time I think there are still some stains!
So I am buying Daz and napisan and hoping for the best!!
Otherwise I will have to bin them as it's not very moneysaving to keep buying all these products to try and get the stains out!!0 -
I have the same problem with my white towels, especially the hand towels. I have had them for a few years but they are perfectly good and I hate to replace them just because they've gone a bit grey. I always hang them in the sun but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I got some Napisan and soaked them for half an hour in it before washing, but they are still grey!! I was wondering about a soak in proper bleach next.
Don't think I'll buy white towels next time.... :rolleyes:0 -
If all fails - dye the white items a different colour.0

Hi there, I use oxyclean (or the pound shop equivalent). You only need a small scoop per wash and whites come up sparkling. If you have whites that are really grey you can soak them in hot water with oxyclean dissolved and it will remove the greyness. I know they say this in the adverts but it really does work.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

I've also got problems getting my whites white, or rather staying white in the whites wash. I discovered a 100% cotton t-shirt (mine of course, the kids stuff never gets ruined) with what look like grey spots/splodges all over it. It looks like dye or pale ink has been splattered over it. The thing is, there was only white stuff in the machine - primarily poly/cotton school shirts, a sheet and some pillow cases. I looked for a stray black sock, but it wasn't to be found!
Nothing else has any of these marks on them. It's not the first time it's happened, a few months back the same happened in a load of light coloureds wash, and a pink t-shirt had similar marks.
I tend to use either persil non-bio, or Daz and a light conditioner in most of my washes.
Is there a chance that discoloured water is staying in the machine after a dark wash? The machine seems to work perfectly fine in every other respect.
Ideas anyone, or anyone had anything similar? One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
why should you not uses fabric softener if you want your whites white?
I use Napisan for my whites along with Daz or similar for whites. I dont use my "coloured" washing powder for whites.0 -

Yeah we had this but it only happened after the colour on the grey and white bedding ran after washing it as per the care label!! I now wash all the bedding (replacement set) in with a colour run sheet on a non-fast colour wash and haven't had any other problems at all.
We had it happen on another wash too with no bedding in and I wondered if the dye had stayed in there but since using the colour run sheets it's not happened again.
Then again, we also stopped using the ariel non-bio tablets in the machine and went back to powder in case it was the washing tablet.
Also the colour run sheet washed in with the marked clothes/bedding took a lot of the colour splodges back out of the item. Would recommend trying them for thatworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
