I'm living on a new build estate which is 5 years old. We didn't know the HA homes gardens would be backing onto our garden when we bought.
Fact: The HA homes are bigger than ours. The HA gardens are bigger than ours.
Fact: The gardens are all full of rubbish...a tv and armchair is often bought out into the garden when the sun is shining, and played at full volume.
Fact: there are always 2 adults in each of the houses during the day, milling around (ie not homeworkers).
Fact: I still would have bought the house had I known these people would be living behind me as there could be far, far worse neighbours. Our house sold STC 9 weeks after going on the market, so it hasn't been a problem when getting a buyer.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

My friend oowns a flat in a new build. She has a housing association tenant below with severe mental health problems who is extremely unwell, vocal and a nightmare to live above. She has been complaining to the HA for 2 years. they "can't" do anything. I dread to think what would happen if she decided to try and sell!0

I'd pay good money to live next to a musical armchair, maybe even more if they let me use it once in a while0 -

Snobbery and hard earned cash do not give you the 'right' to stay in a nice area, they give you a choice.0 -

We haven't mowed our lawn since a bbq last summer. My housemate has what is, almost, a recording studio in his room including a loud drum set which he spends a lot of time on. I quite regularly spend a few hours with my car jacked up in our communal car park as i don't like to pay garages over the odds to service my car. We tend to leave our dustbins on the pavement as we're too lazy to take them out of our garden every week.
Maybe you ought to ask about any buy to let properties on the estate before you put your money down
:rotfl: I love your honesty!!
I currently live on a council/HA estate. We've had the odd issue with other tenants but this gets sorted out swiftly by the HA. The only real trouble we get is with some owner occupiers - and the HA can do nothing about them of course. It's outrageous that OOs are allowed to bring our estate down like this...

As I understand it, developments with less than 500 new builds are exempt from having 10% social housing. Just because someone is buying with or is a tenenat of a housing association doesn't make them a 'chav'. Likewise, a private buyer isn't necessarily going to be perfect.
If are unfortunate to end up with a 'chav' as a neighbour, it will probably be easier to resolve the problem if they are with a HA rather than someone who owns their property.0 -
In "Royal Tunbridge Wells" there's a development called "Post Office Square" where some of the properties sold for over a £1m ! They had to include some "affordable housing" in the development. I wonder if their now "Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" ?
Here's a cheap one

I don't think that is right as there is a development with 52 properties that have social housing.0 -
Poopscoop, I may be wrong on this. It may be that less than 500 its optional. Every conversation I have had with developers has related to the 500 unit rule. I live on a development where there are 470 new build houses, the land owner stipulated no social housing when he sold the land, hence less than 500 houses built.0
