Take whatever you want to use as leftovers off the meal before you serve it up. If it will freeze put it in the freezer, otherwise wrap it well and sort of "anonymously" so it's not easily recognisable.
Don't take a whole roast/chicken/stew/whatever to the table - portion it up in the kitchen and just have the veg/potatoes/pasta/rice on the table - and make lots of those so people can pile their plates full.

Cosmopolitan, I have sympathy, because my OH is EXACTLY the same. I haven't really cracked it yet but it has got better.
I find I like to pick, too, so what works for me is to serve out the portions it's OK for me and OH to eat, and then pack away the other stuff straight away so it's less of a temptation. I find covering it with a tea cloth or plastic bag also helps serve as a visual reminder not to go there! If the chicken's gone and he's still hungry, bread and butter it is : ).
I sometimes hide 'designated' food in the fridge by putting the wrapped food in a plastic bag. Unbelievably, no one has cottoned on to this yet!
As for OH...I think it's really about getting him on board. It'll be better if he takes part in making the meal plan and knows what food is for when...otherwise you'll end up really frustrated, in my experience.0 -
I have a small appetite luckily.. thats how I do it. Tonight I will be having the leftovers of the bacon rib I bought yesterday that didnt go in the LO soup and frying it with the LO kale from the soup I made on Monday..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

I think getting OH on board is the best idea, thanks. I haven't really discussed it with him yet as we don't have our own place yet. He knows I've been making shopping lists and a few meal plans but he thinks I'm bonkers planning stuff like that this far in advance.:starmod:Cosmopolitan:starmod:0 -
I think Rachael is exactly right. My hubby has been just like this, but now he seems to be getting in to the idea of meal planning, and now that I've finally convinced him that no one will judge him for using the microwaves at work he's happy to take leftovers in for his lunch
I think working together to plan and cook your food, and him knowing before hand what will constitute his portion will make things much easier (and I know I'm one of many that needs to work on my portion sizes)
In a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!0 -
i put an extra portion straight in the fridge and he's now really good he'll even ask if need it kept before he polishs off half a loaf of bread, however this never happpens when we have gammon no matter wat he keeps eating it til it's all gone lolDEC GC £463.67/£450

What baffles me about threads like this and several posts I have seen is who ARE these men that eat half a loaf of bread and everything in sight?Surely they cant all be bodybuilders and the like. NOBODY needs to eat THAT much. No wonder women are struggling to pay their food bills and this country has an obesity problem. Have you ladies tried to point out every time they do this exactly HOW much half a loaf or a whole joint of meat costs? Try keeping a tally/records of how much they hoover up like this even while waiting for a meal to be cooked according to some posters..Then show it to them and say this would pay your gas bill , this would buy us a better holiday etcWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Hi cosmopolitan,
This existing thread has lots of advice that may help you when you set up your own home.
OH sabotage of batch cooking!
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

what I have done is get hubby some treats he likes - mini Mars Bars his particular fave - and he now knows to go for them if he is hungry rather than leftovers. He KNOWS not to mess with my meal plan! lol!! But I wouldn't want to leave him hungry, that would be unfair to him, so treats are budgeted in and once they are gone for the month they are gone and he knows that. The threat 'if you eat it now you wont have any dinner/lunch tomorrow' also has a good effect.
I was also quite impressed he was complaining to me about how the mars bars stayed the same price but are now smaller. All the OS talk has been sinking in after all heheheMFW 2015 so far..... £1808.702014 - £1451 2013 - £1600 2012 - £4145 2011 - £5715 2010 - £3258:)
Big new mortgage from 2017

I must admit that I can have some sympathies with this.
I'm currently (have been for a while) "single" - but I do have to be honest and say that my own personal "tactics" do tend to revolve around:
"Do you want me to fancy you or dont you? - your choice"
If they want me to fancy them (ie they get a bit of "nookey") then they will remain slim. If they dont care whether I fancy them or no = then just tuck in - but dont expect any "recreational activities":rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:- ie because I will be looking at them thinking "Nope - dont fancy them....."
It worked for me:D
Slaps wrist "...naughty ceridwen". But sometimes people really DO have to be faced with the consequences of their action ie "slim = sex". "Fat = forget it buster...I'll be doing something else". LOL
That's just me - if anyone wants me to think they are attractive - then they HAVE to be slim or they don't stand a hope in heck that I will...other people may react very differently...0
