I must admit that I can have some sympathies with this.

I'm currently (have been for a while) "single" - but I do have to be honest and say that my own personal "tactics" do tend to revolve around:

"Do you want me to fancy you or dont you? - take your pick"

If they want me to fancy them (ie they get a bit of "nookey") then they will remain slim. If they dont care whether I fancy them or no = then just tuck in - but dont expect any "recreational activities":rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:- ie because I will be looking at them thinking "Nope - dont fancy them....."

    It worked for me:D

Slaps wrist "...naughty ceridwen". But sometimes people really DO have to be faced with the consequences of their action ie "slim = sex". "Fat = forget it buster...I'll be doing something else". LOL

I live with my husband and two sons and more recently my daughter and her boyfriend have have come home from uni to join us and I have never had to resort to such tactics as mentioned above.

I just say please leave that because I'm saving it for the freezer/lunch tomorrow/another meal etc and they just do it. I really don't think it would enter their heads to take something I'd specifically asked them not to eat.

I'm with Pink - the direct honest approach. With a whole joint/ chicken I specifcally say can you leave at least half as we are having it tomorrow as whatever. With batch cooking for example spag bol I portion it out before serving - eg on Mon I made a big pan with 1kg of mince - bagged up 4 portions and left one in the pan for that evening.

I've certainly never threatened to withdrawal sexual favours from my husband if he eats the leftovers - and am very glad I have the kind fo relationship where that kind of manipluation isn't neccessary!!

Its not been "manipulation" in my case - I've realised over time that they just realised of themselves that I simply couldnt/wouldnt fancy them if they were overweight. They then drew their own conclusions from that as to which they preferred - their own choice.

In fact - it took me a while to cotton on that the occasional plump (to start with) boyfriend very soon realised, of themselves, that they needed to slim down to keep my interest and did so without my saying a word about it. I've tried to work out whether I myself had said/done anything for them to reach this conclusion - but I honestly dont think I had. They saw me, they saw the peeps I know - and drew their own conclusions as to what circumstances I would (or wouldnt) fancy them in.

What baffles me about threads like this and several posts I have seen is who ARE these men that eat half a loaf of bread and everything in sight?Surely they cant all be bodybuilders and the like. NOBODY needs to eat THAT much. No wonder women are struggling to pay their food bills and this country has an obesity problem. Have you ladies tried to point out every time they do this exactly HOW much half a loaf or a whole joint of meat costs? Try keeping a tally/records of how much they hoover up like this even while waiting for a meal to be cooked according to some posters..Then show it to them and say this would pay your gas bill , this would buy us a better holiday etc

My Oh eats alot for his tiny size ( he only weighs 10 stone) but he runs 3 times a week sometimes more, paraglides as often as he can which involves lots of walking up hills and is also invloved in whole days bowling!!! His work is quite active walking miles and when he's not doing any of these things is still looking for jobs that are quite physical to do around the house and garden. He absolutely fizzes with energy and needs the food to replace his energy. But it still feels and looks like an awful lot. I cook shepherds pies and lasagnes etc that would really feed a family of 6-8 and we always eat most of it:eek: and there's only 3 of us..but he always makes sure he has portion put by for next days lunch now as he doesn't like to waste his money buying a meal at the canteen, so he is getting better.

Make puddings...that seems to help for us. It's filling and because he knows he's getting one eats less main course:D.

I'm all for the direct approach too. Extra food from a batch cook is siphoned off into the fridge and my OH knows that it's on it's way to the freezer for another night.
If my family have been active all day I would never deny them extra food after a meal. Plenty of husbands still do manual jobs which require a greater calorie intake. It just doesn't have to be leftovers though if I have plans for them. I just offer cheese and biscuits/yoghurts/fruit, if anyone is still hungry.

My OH is not overwieght at all but I know that if he should put on a few pounds I would still be able to see the perosn I love and in our grown up relationship neither of us would play games with eachother by "witholding" anything . I'm afraid I also don't hold with the idea that overweight is unattractive.

All leftovers are either frozen or I have discussed with OH [as he does most of the cooking whilst I'm at work but I do the weekly meal plan] what we will use it for. This week the leftover chicken from the roast has been frozen and will reappear in a pie next week.

Both OH and the small person know what is available for snacks- there's always crackers and a packet of plain biscuits per week. The small person will help himself to dried cereal and OH will often toast bread that is too dry for sandwiches. Both know not to dip in to the crisps etc as there are only a certain number available for lunches and I don't restock up between shopping trips.

It makes me sound a complete haridan but until I finish on 29th July I only have limited time to shop and a limited budget:D Discussion is definitely key!

It's not just men :o I have to freeze all batch cooking and leftovers that will do for another day - in order to hide it from MYSELF. I am tall, I am physically active, I can get away with eating a lot, but I also enjoy cooking and eating what I've cooked, and I would certainly eat a lot more than I could get away with if I left it within easy reach.

So I gotta say, whilst I very much symapthise with people who are trying to feed the whole family and stay in budget, only to see this sabotaged by their nearest and dearest, I also have the greatest sympathy for those nearest and dearest that just want to EAT THE LOVELY FOOD.

So be kind, and remove the temptation, eh ;)

Left overs are fine and safe here. Plenty of food but also a menu plan in place. DH is fine with it. I love him to bits -he is kind and loving:D. Goodness I certainly never think he'd withhold anything from me over body appearance, nor would I from him:eek:.

That would work for me but unfortunatly OH isn't keen on sweet things. Though if I have chocolate he usually pinches some. :(

Making sure there is enough other stuff for him to snack on will probably be a good idea aswell. Hopefully when he realises how much it will all cost he will stop his pointless snacking. He does have a fairly active job but eats a lot because he's bored not hungry.
