OH sabotage of batch cooking!

DH is very good if I tell him something is off limits. However, it's taken a good couple of years to get it through to him that it's possible to tub up some of the dinner to be eaten another time. On many occasions I have done a huge batch of pasta or some such thing, thinking 'I'll have some for lunch over the next couple of days' and then find he's eaten enough to feed me for four meals!
He was brought up by a family who eat huge portions of food and with the idea that 'wasting' food is bad. The latter is fine except for the fact that it's taken time for him to realise that it doesn't go to waste if it isn't eaten there and then.
If it's really important to me that I have some left, then I dish up his serving rather than let him serve himself & I tell him I need what is left.
I brought myself two packets of Thornton's chocolates as they were on special offer. It was a real treat. However, I made the mistake of offering him a chocolate. He then ate about a packet and a half of them even though he had loads of chocolate of his own... I didn't realise till I went to the fridge and there was only one left! I should have realised he'd done it when he brought me back a load of chocolate related stuff from Lidl - it's not the same though!0 -
He seemed to think it is like the "magic cooking pot" fairy tale and the more he eats the more there will be .

I must confess to being the guilty party in our house. I cooked a large piece of pork on Monday and was picking crispy bits off while it was still in the oven:eek: We have managed a stir fry and sandwiches from the left overs but could hvae done much more if I hadn't been at it.. When I got in tonight, OH told me he'd had some fruit for his lunch as he didn't like to touch the pork in the fridge in case I needed it for something:o I instantly chopped up the remainder into two more stir-fry portions for the freezer.
To satisfy savoury snacking I buy frankfurters (99p Lidl) and fish fingers which both make nice sandwiches. Peanut butter is another easy favourite plus cheese. I always keep some grated cheese in freezer for sauces etc and tend to buy Philly (when on offer for £1) for snacking purposes.0 -
Hi Ellie
As you have had plenty of OS input and this has dropped down the board, I've merged it with an older thread where you can read about OSers previous experience and suggestions with the same issue! Naughty OHs!
Good luck - whip him in to shape

It's funny to see this thread as I've just had my Mum on the phone [STRIKE]whinging[/STRIKE] explaining that the HUGE tray bake cake I made her for her bday on Sunday had disappeared without her getting another piece! With Dad off work after a knee op, 2 brothers and their gf's tucking in poor Mum didn't get a look in! With my hubby I cut cakes/flap jacks etc into bite size pieces so he always gets 2 or 3 bits. Of course it's still less than if he'd cut himself a 'sliver'!
Whilst I'm here I must thank all of you who post recipes, I've been having a whale of a time baking the last few days. Made 2 lots of brownies, lemon cake and the marble tray bake so far. I can't believe I thought it would take too long to make sweet things from scratch!0 -
interesting, and good to know when i get a fella etc.
dont have too much of a problem with extra portions dissapearing as it only me, but have had the trouble of certain people who have decided to pop in 'forgetting' what time i finish work, let themselves in and help themself whilst waiting, only for me to come home with a real craving for what has now conveniently disopeared.
if not i find that where i try not to have biscuits and such treats in, will say to the same certain people that not got any treats in,do you want me to get a packet of bisquits? (esp when they meet me from work) to have my coubourds raided and be asked- got no bisquits in then? to have to dish out lunch snacks.
although when im visiting them, i tend to take a little something with me such as a packet of bisquits, strange how im considereate and it can be forgotten the other way?0 -
My oh is a nightmare for eating things too...but it never bothers me, im far too laid back for my own good lol. He doesnt live with me but stays over a lot...however he isnt tonight. but i have done a load of batch cooking today and he called in earlier to find 2 pies on the side cooling. as he left he sneaked one (which would feed my family of 4) into his bag to take to work to eat tomorrow lol. To be honest though i see it as a compliment...he must love my cooking lol. He is a pig with my chocolate cake though, he has a full quarter of it in 1 portion lol. Its a good job i love cooking0

I'm very lucky..my DH has a substantial breakfast, cereal with loads of berries or bananas, tea and a cup of real coffee..
I make sure he has a cooked meal, usually leftovers, or a few sarnies, or soup and bread for lunch and then he waits for his supper.
He doesn't go and pick at anything in the fridge and if he is hungry, he will eat a banana or a few biscuits.
He knows that I would kill him if he touched food he wasn't supposed to have delved into.

Got him well trained. :T:T:TFelines are my favourite

Does anyone else have to do this, my other half eats everything in sight so if I leave a bit to cool in the pan he puts it on his plate, his dinners are big enough but he is so greedy! I hid a pot of LO bolognese last night and just enjoyed it on a nice jacket potato for my lunch:j0

Is there something he hates (eg celery), write on the tub whatever that thing is (eg celery stew)....adapt label to suit colour if need be....(eg celery bolognaise).....Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.
Encouragement always works better than judgement.0 -
Ha, yes my hubby does this too! I like the celery tipAnna :beer:0
