xmas eve M&S food shopping bargains

hi:D anyone been to M&S on xmas eve the latest time possible to grab all the food bargains? I have been to Waitrose and got a £65 stuffed turkey breast for £8:j, bargain:D but then we moved tried this Waitrose and the manager was very shirty and all the gathered crowd told them he was not going to reduce it by much he would rather give it away to his staff than 'give it away to us' so we ended up with a bit of veg and that was it so M&S any good? Do they cut the prices on xmas eve? Anyone been? Sainsburys has never been worth the xmas eve trouble yes they reduce but not enough to bother with and Asda never have anything worth queing for...

no i go to a butcher for the meat and support him as well as getting quality food and help and advice from someone who knows about their trade.

I would never dream of getting meat from a supermarket.

I agree to a point as butchers have the edge in care but also their costs are higher than if you waited until xmas eve from the supermarket and waited for the bargain:D I did one year order from the butchers to pick up xmas eve to have him tell me that he could not get me the size we had agreed on and the price we had agreed on and so I had to have the one he got me which was much more costly, bigger, not needed and ended up very unhappy, I bought it because it was 2pm xmas eve what else was there to do but never went there again:rolleyes:

if you wait for a bargain you might end up with nothing.

Yes a butcher does have the edge in care thats his job he knows about meat.

You had a bad experience once, that dosent mean you should shun your butcher he is there for you all year round as well not just xmas.

Supermarkets are grocers shops. They know naff all about butchering. Try asking the till girl or the manager about meat they will know diddly squat. Its not a service.

I couldn't risk waiting till the last minute, bargain or not - can't bear to think if I ended up with nothing!!

I would rather pay a bit more and have peace of mind for christmas. I spend Xmas eve doing crafty things with the kids anyway, I couldn't be bothered hanging about the shops. :)

Yes, if you work for them!

They only ever reduce stuff (by 25% usually when i worked there, but that was a long time ago) and sell it to staff once the store has shut.

I had exactly the same experience, except that while I was in the line at the butchers on Christmas Eve waiting for my pre-ordered-in-early-November 4kg turkey I heard the woman two people ahead of me ask if he by any chance had a 4kg turkey available. He vanished into the back and produced one, and she paid her £18 and left with [STRIKE]my[/STRIKE] the turkey. It comes to be my turn, I ask for my turkey, and the guy tells me their supplier had let them down and the smallest they'd been sent was 7kg - and organic, and that'll be £69, please.

We had a Tesco turkey, fresh, with giblet gravy, and because it was 3pm when I got there our poor dead bird was £6.50.

I use a local butcher for steak and sausages, and this year I'm testing Abel and Cole's ordering service for a Christmas duck, but I've never been back to that guy.

  • HI there I use to work at M and S and they don't reduce at all for the public. They reduce after the store has closed and the staff that are working are allowed to go and get some shopping when the store is shut. HTH Tiger x

I have lists for lists:rotfl: I have all the xmas presents done, all the hampers done, all the glitches at boots done, all the xmas table decorations done, lists on the computer of the food to buy the alcohol needed the cost of it all done:rotfl: been every single xmas eve for the turkey and never went without one, the shops always order too many and it is just a question of waiting, I have previously bought one and then also gone on xmas eve and got a reduced one so I get two one for xmas/boxing day and then the other for NYD but much cheaper:D
