The Ecozone website contains some reviews of these lamps, and a lot of the reviews mention a high failure rate and short life. Anyone any direct experience?

OH swears by her Lite Pad Plus for anti-SAD. She uses it at breakfast time to set her up for the day. I have seen it for as much as £40 - £60 but I am sure it only cost me more like 20 - 30 so it's worth shopping around.

i bought two lights to try in our lounge and got them yesterday morning, after putting them on last night i'm going to switch back to the normal lights, the only thing i think that would be useful for these lights is if you are working under them. They are really bright and its a very blue/white light not cosy at all.

I would compare them to as headlights on the cars, the normal halogen cars are yellowish and the xenons are very blue white crisp light. Might be useful for some though but definately not for the lounge.

I've had 3 in my kitchen for 15 months and they're in constant use. I did order one and when it came it wasn't working. I sent it back and got sent a replacement.

yes the colour spectrum of the light these produce is a blue-white.good for growing house plants under but most humans prefer a warm white for lighting the home

Indeed my OH wanted a SAD lamp and I could only find them at vast expense in the catalogues that drop out of magazines and on shopping channels. Bought a pair of these instead to replace normal "warm" low energy bulbs in the living room, and within half hour she said they were too harsh so I had to put the originals back!

This time of year she misses sunlight and I think she expected them to be sun coloured! Both bulbs worked fine, I just need to work out where to use them... Probably loft and garage!

Nothing wrong with them, just didn't work for the OH, she'll probably still go out and buy an expensive SAD lamp :(

I find this useful to to find out what colour the light may look thats assuiming they tell you the range

Warm white 2700K Similar to light from an incandescent bulb, distinctly yellow.
Soft white 3500K Whiter than an incandescent bulb, but still somewhat yellow.
Cool white 4100K A more neutral white often used in offices.
Daylight 6400K A distinctly bluish white, close to the colour of natural light.

Anyone used a SAD lamp at all wondered if they are any good

I bought one of the Philips GoLite Energy SAD lamps as I have CFS and sleep a lot and don't get enough sunlight...and sunlight makes your body produce vitamin D which is how they are supposed to work by promoting/tricking your body into making vit d, which should give you more energy so I thought I'd give it a go. A week in and no difference, but it's the easiest non-intrusive 'treatment' and I'm going to persevere for 30 days as there is a 30 day money back guarantee on it. Give me a PM in a few weeks and I'll let you know how it's doing if you want.

The cheapest ones showing on Amazon now are £7.99 so it looks like I missed the best deal :( I suffer from SAD too, so I was very keen on trying them. For £5 I'd have ordered a couple to try, but £7.99 is just that bit too much.

I hope they will be doing them at £5 again though.
