I want to have a Sky Plus Box so that I can record movies but because I have Virgin TV and Phone I think I need to get a BT line back in. I know I was quoted ages ago over £100 to reconnect the line as we were originally with BT over 8 yrs ago.

Can anyone tell me the cheapest way to do this ?

I am also paying over the odds for my internet speed with them too at £20 per month and am getting shockingly low speeds although they say I should be getting 10mb min and I am getting approx. 1.5 to 2.0 mb download. They put it down to a USB connection and sent me a new router which uses ethernet which my old computer does not support. I am changing my computer therefore so am quite prepared to change internet provideralso.

    Thanks.

Er, that's a rather expensive way to get an ethernet connection! Even a ten year old PC will take an ethernet card which should cost you about a fiver at most, and ten minutes to install. Pop down to your local independent PC shop (not PCW)
and ask them for a 'PCI ethernet card' or 'PCI network card' (same thing). Rather cheaper than a new PC!
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Just a bit! When NTL first rolled out broadband, they were going to have the installers carry, sell & install Ethernet cards into punters PC's until we pointed out the installers were'nt PC engineers & it could lead to 'other things' like claims.
Best fault I had was a new punter complained that his broadband would'nt work so I went round.Turns out he was trying to a Windows 95 PC!

Thanks for clarifying that for me. So how much would I have to pay does anyone know?
I've been looking at swapping my entire Virgin service - TV, broadband and phone - to Sky. The place I'll be living in doesn't currently have a BT line and Sky quoted £39 for them to install the phone line.

If you go on their Website you can fill in your address details and what you want and it quotes how much it'll cost.
