of course, if you actually get someone out to measure & fit the blinds, if there is an issue with the sizing, its down to them to sort it out
local firms can be so cheap, its just not worth ordering online

    I had a nightmare with BlindsUK http://www.blindsuk.net/

I ordered a vertical blackout blind in May but as we work full time taking delivery of anything is always a problem for us. I telephoned their sales room and checked that if I ordered on the Thursday and paid for next day delivery I would definately receive my purchase on the Friday. They assured me that this would be the case so I booked a day off work and waited, and waited... no show. I called but they refused to talk to me about the matter, saying that their customer services department were the only people who could help me and the only way to reach them was via email. I can only presume that they've stopped taking calls because they can't cope with the irate phone calls!

Due to a communication error with their dispatcher (!) the blind turned up on Monday. They refunded me the next day delivery charge but never compensated me for the inconvenience.

The blind itself was cheap, and you get what you pay for. We nearly ended up in divorce trying to get the damn thing up and overall its a poor quality product. A friend just had another company fit a blind for them and looking at what she got I really wish I'd paid the extra.

Lesson learnt by me, it wasn't worth the hassle.

I used Discount Blind Centre - I was amazed at the quality, service and price and am now recommending them to everybody.

I got 6 blackout blinds online from Tesco. Great colour, easy to fit, do the job, for around £12 per blind each! I got these because I have big sash windows, and these were the only ones I could find that had a long enough drop.

We did the same, initially we had a quote from Hillarys and then went online for a cheaper option. We ordered 4 wooden blinds from http://www.soeasyblinds.co.uk which have now been installed and we're very pleased with them.

They appeared to have the same selection of colours as Hillarys too but their prices were much better - if you don't mind doing the fitting yourself ;-)
  • Also, a friend ordered from Bruce Blinds. They had no problems and the choice is the same as So Easy Blinds, however Bruce Blinds is quite a bit more expensive. My friend isn't much of a money saver ;-)
  • With all due respect DIY blinds will rarely be as good as made to order. There are many hidden traps when measuring and if a local supplier gets it wrong they will have to put it right. If you get it wrong then tough and any replacements will be from a different batch of fabric so a different colour. bay windows, conservatories, fitting issues, where do the brackets fix too, what brackets are they, how much room do the fittings take. will the window handles get in the way....... need I say more
  • I found measuring and fitting of our blinds very straight forward using their measuring and fitting guides, plus the blinds were made to the exact measurements requested (even I was impressed with how accurate they were). :D

    I brought 2 blinds from Wooden-Blinds-Direct.co.uk

The first fitted perfectly but the valance didnt.

The second was to big I ask for 88cm I got 88.8cm. The same problem with
    valance to big

I phone to complain the fella who asked the phone was rude, didnt want to know and I quote "that the way the valance comes"

I had to sand the 2nd blind until it fitted - the valances still havent been fitted

I would give this company an big NO!!!!

I always buy online after measuring carefully, i always fit myself (because it isn't difficult) and have never had a problem

if you think you can save money by doing it yourself and ordering online then do it.
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.
