O2 advice, new phone/contact
Options
Hi all, I am looking for some advice regarding my OH phone, his 12 month contact ends this weekend and it will need renewing, I will be doing this on his behalf as he is currently away and what like to know what is the best deal at the moment, he currently pays £35 (minus £8 loyalty reward) for ?600 mins and 500 texts. And has been with him since 2002, not that loyalty counts for much.
however, he recently recieved a letter from O2 claiming he was on 'best tariff' for he usage. actual wording is:
''So we've taken a good look at your account and how you used your phone over the last six months, to make sure you're on the best tariff. And you are.'
Which seems fine however he hasn't used his phone for approx 5 months as he is in Afgan. And they wouldn't reduce his contact for his length of tour either,!
So am really annoyed that O2 are making out that they have provided a service which they clearly haven't. I'd really like to get a great deal for when he comes home. Any suggestions or advice welcome .
Thanks

Well if he hasn't used the phone as he has been on a tour of duty, i do find that odd they would send a letter like that. Assuming it hasn't been used for 5 months.
You could choose not to renew and just let it roll every 30 days.
Do you know how long he will be back for, does he want a new phone and how much does he use it usually. If you can give us some ideas of usage and length required we can have a look.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

maybe a simplicity one?
Mins
800
Texts
1600
Cost per month
£19.58
http://shop.o2.co.uk/simplicity-12
or if you take the 1 month one you can switch to payg whenever you like (with 1 months notice)0 -
If your happy to stay with 02,
02 Sim Only - http://shop.o2.co.uk/sim-only-simplicity
600 Mins
1200 Texts
+ a bolt on
30 day rolling, £15 a month
If you prefer another provider i would get a sim only PAYG, in order to check coverage in your area first.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Thanks, bit more information, he uses he phone daily when home, (and when he returns Nov he back in this country for at least 18 months) he needs about 300-400 mins and about 100texts. he also relys on a new handset very year as he doesn't take very good care, typical squaddie (dropped, kicked, mud, rain etc..)I use simplicity deal, had same phone N97 for nearly 2 years!!
Anyway when I rang O2 today they said the letter was meant to imply that he hadnt gone over the allocated mins etc... I said letter misleading therefore was going to speak to OH and ring them back with what upgrade he wanted, and honestly his he just wants a new phone, but I want to get best deal. how dare they take £35 for past few months for no service yet send us a letter boosting about it!Making small changes, hoping they will last....0 -
It maybe worth while int he last 30 days of the contract ask for the PAC code, its optional to be used, but usually means you want to leave and take the phone number with you.
This gets 02 retentions to call you, they will offer you the best deals, state the number of min/texts you need, the fact you want a handset on a contract no longer than 18 months, and get phone insurance so if it breaks or is damaged accidentally it is covered.
Look at other operators for there deals and 02 as well, and retentions should be able to offer you the best price. If they don't just quote the prices of other deals that are cheaper, in the end you should win out.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
