Had my card done at (I think) ASDA in Fareham Hants. Two attempts in the Americas to remove money.
    Told ASDA - no interest
Tried to tell NatWest with number as shown on cash receipt - no interest
Tried to tell Fareham police - no interest
Who is interested apart from anyone "done" ?

LOL Anyone who falls for this really needs to plant something in between there ears, That something is called a brain, And possibly some common sense.

No bank or credit card provider would ever ask you to send such sensitive information by courier.

  • Scam with a twist.
Called by someone purporting to be the Met fraud squad regarding a possible cloned card and he asked me to call the card helpline number on the back of my debit card to verify that the call was genuine. The helpline answered and transferred me back to the pretend fraud officer. Later during the scam I was getting a bit dubious so the faker said to call him back via 999 and ask for a particular extension. Did this and got back to the same person.
THIS MEANS THEY HAD CONTROL OF MY OUTGOING CALLS.
It is easy to say ring off and call back, but they seem to have found a way of dealing with this. If you want to do this then use a mobile or different line.
From the outside it is obvious but in the middle you get swept along - I am not old or stupid - but got caught out because they were able to pick up whoever I rang to verify that the call was real.
Praise to the Nationwide because their system blocked the cards after the first fraudulent withdrawal.

Shetlander - this sounds like a progression on the old BT Scam where a "BT Operator" tricked people into thinking they had cut their telephone line by simply pressing mute (obviously hee-haw to do with BT and all about scamming!).

It appears that all they now do is play a tape of a dial tone to trick the person on the phone into thinking the call has been ended and they are actually dialling a new number - then regardless of what numbers are pressed by the owner of the phone the original callers simply pick up with a different voice and pretend to be the related organisation.

So they don't have "control over your outgoing calls" - they just never end the original call in the first place!

Quite a clever con if you think about it....
