Interesting scam, but there's nothing new about it. Scams are never new just idiots, the ignorant and stupid forever fall for the same old thing. And we all pay for their actions.MSE_Guy wrote:Financial Fraud Action UK
If you're going to use authoritive sounding pro-nouns like that on this great site the very least you can do is post info on who they are, what they are intending to do and who supports them. With a name like that they themselves sound like a bunch of scammers.0 -

Taken from here: http://www.ukpayments.org.uk/uk_payment_schemes/financial_fraud_action_uk/Financial Fraud Action UKFinancial Fraud Action UK is the name under which the financial services industry co-ordinates its activity on fraud, presenting a united front against financial fraud and its effects.
This new brand was launched on 6th July to replace the work carried out by APACS as the leading voice on fraud within the payments industry and we anticipate using this new name alongside The UK Cards Association on a regular basis.
We continue, to answer questions on all types of fraud and the costs as well as the preventative measures in place to protect customers.
A new website will be launched later this year at www.financialfraudaction.org.uk but in the meantime www.cardwatch.org.uk and www.banksafeonline.org.uk provide tips for customers to prevent being a victim of fraud.

That's not what I meant. My point was the original news was "official" MSE info and quite a lot of people visit this site and take everything said as solid truth. The last thing we want is these numpty organisations setup by greedy companies coming over all authortitive and 'agency' like just cos they bought some hi-viz jackets from Poundland.
The word I'm looking for is partial. These organisations can't really be impartial as they are paid for by thieving private companies like banks. Quoting from their pathetic statements is not a good thing for consumers.
Partial: favouring one side or person unfairly; biased.0 -

I have just come back from Thailand where I stayed at a hotel run by some Englisg guys.
I only used my Lloyds Debit Card once and that was to pay the bill on checkout.
I was discreetly advised when returning to the uk that i should check my bnk account as there have been reports of a scam whereby peoples card numbers have been sold on and a few people bank accounts have been wiped out on people staying at that place.
Where do i stand if that happens to me i am really worried.
So far my account is ok
I used my LLoyds Debit card but cant find if i am protected with LLoyds
Any help here???
Thanks0 -

I consider myself as due dilligent, but have also fallen prey to what I can only call lowest of the low scum bag scammers. I run a small cottage industry business and have advertised in reputable local papers for years. Out of the blue I had a call from a smooth talking, sweet young lady who convinced me to place and advert in the paper she worked for (Wiltshire Guardian) we chatted for about 15 mins about my business and she even helped advise me of where she will place the advert in the paper so my target audience would get to see it, she even suggested a few other papers that she had 'contacts' in could also help increase my business.
I gave over my credit card details for the sum of £99.00 plus vat and thought nothing of it. The paper arrived, very dissappointing quality. I called her back to say that normal advertising practise was to run a proof to be signed off first, this never happened. She apologised and agreed to run another week FREE for the error.
By the end of week 2 not only had I been scammed but I found 9 other newspapers whom I did not order with had helped themselves to £1400 of my credit card money.
I am having a hard time getting the money back as the bank said I gave the card details freely. Not the case for the other newspapers.
Be warned of Southern Chronicle, London & Thames Express, London Chronicle, Home counties, jujernaut Press and Media.
I hope something like this happens to that young lady who scammed me. As a small business if I hadn't stopped my card soon enough I could have gone bankrupt. How dare these mindless criminals be allowed to get away with it---- by the banks of all people.0 -

I give my card number to all sorts of companies for legitimate purchases but that does not mean they can dip into my account for whatever they want. Looks like another case of banks stringing customers along.
Stick with it and do not let them get away with it.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
