If an untrustworthy buyer then opens a Paypal claim saying they haven't received their item, what do you do then? It would be just your word that they actually had received. Paypal will only accept online proof of delivery showing a signature from the likes of Royal Mail, DHL etc, and without this will refund your buyer leaving you out of pocket. For this reason it is definitely in your interests to discourage Paypal on collect-only items.Cardinal-Red wrote: »Not at all - for the reasons provided in my original post....?0 -

So you sell say an antique piece of furniture for £500, buyer pays by Paypal, they collect, then 7 days later they open up an "item not received" dispute.
What would you do?
(Particularly when Paypal ask you for a tracking number, you can't provide one, so they refund the £500 to the buyer - you are then £500 down, with no antique furniture either!)Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Or if the person is collection get them to sign a date a bit of paper stating that they've collected simples.0

advice like this is nonsense for paypal purposes
you can get them to sign a picture with the item,Bill Gates and all their family present as witnesses
you will still lose a PP dispute for non receipt0 -

You have to give paypal on-line proof of receipt, such as special delivery tracking number or a courier company.
They will not accept signed bits of papers, or photos of the person collecting the item.0 -

I do get very concerned that there are still people who believe this will protect them. paypal is a safe mechanism for payment, but only if you understand how it works and misunderstanding the very basics will see you stung at some point.
Interestinly paypal themselves state it is not suitable for use where items cannot be delivered and tracked to delivery online, and for items over £150 they even require a copy of the signature to be available online (not faxed, not hand delivered by the Queen herself, but online from a recognised delivery method like RM or DHL).
Obviously the fact that ebay then go and insist we all take paypal even for collected items just shows how muddled it all gets.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ok - well I didn't mean to get into an "is this right or wrong" argument over my methods

Suffice it to say, I have had zero trouble with Paypal payments and people collecting; and lots of trouble with cash on collection people.
Perhaps it's just people who buy guitars are more trustworthy, I've no idea!
The point of my post was.... somebody asking for payment by Paypal is not always suspicious.
Sorry if any of you have been stung by Paypal's over zealous refunding methods!!The above facts belong to everybody; the opinions belong to me; the distinction is yours to draw...0 -
Was cash offered as a payment option in the sale? If not, you're choice is to either dip out now and run the risk of them reporting you.
If it was offered, I would report them for being in breach of their own conditions of sale and dip out.
Bottom line - dip out, wait for another one to come along or get them to agree to accept cash at the point of collection.0 -
I would only collect from B and pay cash on collection.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

you cannot refuse paypal as a method of payment on eBay
although most buyers will pay cash on collection if asked
i often buy local collect and im surprised at the amount of sellers who request PP over cash on collection
cash in hand saves them fee's for a start0
