Wanted - Experiences Of Flying With Monarch Airlines

Hi all!

We're flying out from Luton to Faro mid September 06 and would like to hear from anyone who has flown with Monarch Airlines.

This is a scheduled rather than a charter flight, which ironically means that we cannot upgrade to a premium class (unlike on charters)!!

Your comments, good and (hopefuly not!!) less good would be very much appreciated.

We're particularly keen to know about things such as tips on the best seats to choose for extra comfort, onboard catering etc.

Also, would anyone recommend, or otherwise, any other airline for this route?

Many thanks in advance!

Andy

I've flown with Monarch a few times from Manchster to Malaga (Spain).

My experience is that they were okay, all the flights were on time at both ends. Food was standard plane stuff and drinks (vino tinto para mi) were included in my flight cost.

It was a long time ago, but they were not very good.

    Very, very cramped seating.

no good for a big bloke like me.

We've flown with them a few times and had no problems at all, I know others have but they do treat passengers extremely well if there are any delays
    I haven't got one!

I didn't enjoy it but then again I don't do budge well. The plane was old very old, the staff were ok as was the food. The delay was caused by us as they messed up our seats and the wheelchair access both ends.

yep, fly with another airline :D

according to this website, they offer a seat pitch of 29". Another website said 28" which is appalling.
Ok (just) if you're flying Manchester - Leeds, but very crampled for a longer distance.
Here's aflyers forum site about Monarch, have a read and see what you think. Be careful though, most of the writers seemed to have plumped for the extra cost "premium" seats.

    A slightly different perspective...

I was taught to fly by a Monarch first officer. My PPL examiner and subsequent instructor when I went on to fly other aircraft was Monarch's chief training captain. The captain was with me in a light aircraft when the engine failed. We made it back safely onto the ground with the minimum of fuss, and dare I say a certain amount of style!

I can personally vouch that two of Monarch's flight crew (including the one that oversees all the other crew's training) are thoroughly professional and competent people. I would be happy for them to fly me anywhere in the world.

Try to get a seat on the outside as inside is awful, my sincere thanks(prayers) was to the ground staff who had managed to keep the thing i was one suspended in the air from one end to the other, much to the relief of my mother plus the insurance company, the cramp is a bonus!
  • If you want more leg-room go for a seat by the emergency exit, or simply go for an aisle seat and stick your legs out into the aisle once you are in the air..

Added benefit is that you get out first in an emergency.(joke)
