Well I sent them a letter last week that was similar to what is on the previous page (tweaked it a bit whilst writing it up).

I'm fully expecting them to tell me to take it to the FLA but its worth a try.

Hi just to say i've written back to GE Money enclosing all corespondance to an from
them and oneself asking them to look at my claim again also mentioning the escalations team could take a look and maybe give a better response posted on 30/11/09 so just got to wait again worth a try as i was told by FOS to take it to theFLA but it seems not many are getting anywhere with them so like i say one last go at GE Money fingers crossed

Anyone got an idea of how soon they have to respond to a PPI claim for a loan that is/was not regulated by the FOS ?

Its been a couple of week snow since my 2nd letter but I've had nothing back - not even an acknowledgment of the letter.

    Hi hun

It should be the usual 8 weeks in full regulated or not.
I would chase them up if you can and tell them you can still consider taking this further despite them not being governed.
It may make them think twice about this.

If 8 weeks have already passed, then give them 7 days.

If you cannot pursue through these then you can try by doing so with their insurer, who should be regulated.;)

Well, their ears must have been burning - Went home at lunchtime to let the dog out and the postman called with a letter from GE.

They say that they understand my complaint but as I have had the benefit of the insurance until 2009, they cannot give me a refund - I settled the loan in 2006 so I'm not sure how that works!

Anyway, they also say that this is their final response and that I should go to the FLA if I'm not happy.

So now I have some questions.

    1) Can I refuse to accept their final response and write to them again?

    2) How do I find out who the insurer was? I cant find anything in the SAR info that tells me that.

    3) My original complaint gave 3 reasons why I wanted a refund. They have only ever addressed one of these - can I push them to answer the others?

    4) They have not answered questions from my second letter - can I push them on these?

It seems that they have taken a standard letter, added one paragraph and sent it out to me. To the extent that the additional paragraph doesnt read quite right and the grammar seems different to the rest of the letter.

    I'm a bit miffed!

Hi hun, sorry for not posting up earlier, glad you bumped this up though.;)

They say that they understand my complaint but as I have had the benefit of the insurance until 2009, they cannot give me a refund - I settled the loan in 2006 so I'm not sure how that works!
This should not make any difference, seems like a fob off to me.

Anyway, they also say that this is their final response and that I should go to the FLA if I'm not happy.
The thing is with the FLA, many on here do not find them helpful, you could though however, give them a ring just to see what they have to say, so you can rule this out, you never know though, they may be lenient and may help, but its rare with these.

So now I have some questions.

    1) Can I refuse to accept their final response and write to them again?
If that was not the final response, then yes, you can try by writing to them again, until they give you the final decision, ask them to reconsider with your reasons as you do not agree with the decision they have given you.

    2) How do I find out who the insurer was? I cant find anything in the SAR info that tells me that.
You could actually ask them in the letter for the Insurer's details, ask them to send you the Insurance policy details, as you are entitled to have these, ask them to send them by 7-14 days.

    3) My original complaint gave 3 reasons why I wanted a refund. They have only ever addressed one of these - can I push them to answer the others?
Tell them you don't feel the investigations are not complete, as they have not given all reasons.

    4) They have not answered questions from my second letter - can I push them on these?
Yes, go for it, you need an answer afterall.

It seems that they have taken a standard letter, added one paragraph and sent it out to me. To the extent that the additional paragraph doesnt read quite right and the grammar seems different to the rest of the letter.

    I'm a bit miffed!
Go for the above, give it a go, and as soon as you receive the insurer's details, write to them, and take it from there, they again have 8 weeks, the FOS will look into this because to what I know of these were regulated/governed, they are actually waiting for one of mine to be passed on to an adjudicator, so it have not been turned away.

Good luck hun, keep at them, and please keep us posted.
