Please tell me this gets better

My hubby and I have just had our LBM :j but are now currently as a result suffering from the following:

Insomnia, headaches, racing heart, hot sweats, cold sweats, overeating (when we have food in the house), overdrinking (because we have spent our food money on wine instead ;)) lack of concentration, lack of bedroom activity :o

I also seem to have gained a phobia of ringing phones and envelopes in the letter box.

Please tell me this gets better and I can look forward to feeling normal again

It does get better when you really have the LBM.
However !!! Examine yourself, is this really your “light bulb moment.” Do you still think you will win the lottery? If you find plenty of reasons and excuses not to act immediately then the bulb has not come on properly. Do you really want to get out of debt. If you can not do without (this is a general list) - A Sky contract, Mobile Phones, Two cars, Bingo, Music lessons, Lottery tickets, Air fresheners, Cloths for a year, Charity contributions, Savings for a child, Presents, Holidays, Fitness/Sports Membership, then again the bulb has not come on properly. That's not without mentioning Cigarettes!

    Good Luck

    Hi Bailey

If you get an action plan in place and start dealing with your debts and taking control of your money it really does start to get better. If you are having to reduce payments to your creditors (such as in a DMP or similar) then they may hassle you for a couple of months but after that things really do start to settle down.

In fact after a while you should feel better than ever before, no longer that gently nagging guilt that you should be opening the post rather than filing it behind the cupboard, no more fingers crossed the card will be accepted when you are stood with a trolley full of shopping! Plus 'bedroom activity' is very MSE - free activities are always the best!!

You know I think you are right!! Maybe we havent had our LBM thinking about it. I do still think I am going to win the lottery and all my troubles will be over. I suppose once I have addressed everything and my action plan is in place then I will hopefully start to feel like the old me again. Thanks guys

  • Hi Bailey

Would just like to say although gfplux has some very valid points i still think you can have some of those things and have your LBM. As long as they are factured into your budget and you can afford to live a 'normal' albeit frugal lifestyle you'll be much happier and be able to achieve your goals. A realistic budget is the way forward-its working for me!

    Good luck

  • Hi Bailey59 it really does get better -

I can't tell you the difference my LBM has made to me, I like you do have a phobia of the house phone and also the post but i'm working on it :o

But even if the Light Bulb is just flickering still keep visiting the site and reading the posts cos soon enough it will be the shinest Light Bulb you've ever seen!

    Good Luck :D XXX

I tend to agree. We can all work out that if we never to this or that and eat the cheapest this and that and only put one lump of coal on the fire, we'll we out of this mess in 27.76283 years. The trouble is that we cannot function like that and if pushed too far, we rebel, bounce back and can become worse than we were beforehand as there is nothing to live for.

I don't smoke or drink now but I like to be warm and to have hot water. I could do with improving my fitness and I can take my child to swim if I join the sports complex. So, I won't reduce my heating to the extent that it will make me cold and I reckon that the gym and sports centre at £38 a month is actually decent value because I can get my child into the crèche for £6 for a couple of hours and I can hit the gym or we can both go to swim.

Some will argue that it is excessive expenditure at about (£6 * 3 times a week * 4 weeks + £38)=£110 a month. But my child gets some social interaction, I get some free time, I get healthier and she learns to swim and we have a great time together. I balance it looking at the whole picture. I don't have Sky Sports or Sky Movies for instance.

What I'm trying to say is that you will only have a chance to succeed if you can really stick to it. Like a diet really; make it too harsh a regime and you can't do it.

Your LBM is actually sitting down and then coming here. It is not blacked out because you still hope for a better resolution.

It does get better, the too much drinking is just your way of making yourself feel better at the moment, and sometimes the debt seems so enormous you feel like the little things wont make any difference, but the do.
I like the post coming now, get some good things, I no longer feel sick when I see the postman or the phone rings, I have been paying off my debt for some years now, but this year has been a real change round for me, and I'm almost there, but I have changed so many things this year, and taken back control.
I wish you the best of luck.

Oh yes it does get better. I am about to pay off one card, then just the one left and less than £1,000 on that.

Damn that feels around £25,000 better!
  • Its all about feeling in control of things. No matter how bad the situation you can take control of it, whether thats though a DMP or a realistic budget to cut your spending and slowly reduce the debts. Once you feel in control of your finances you dont feel so scared. Its not easy, and there are times when it still makes me feel a bit down but I can cope with that. When you first have your LBM you can panic and fall into the trap of looking for an easy way out (eg consolidation loans, dodgy companies that promise to write off your debts etc) thats what I did to begin with and needed a second LBM to see the real truth. Be honest with yourselves about the situation and it will get easier. Good luck!!
  • RE LBM and Sky Contract.. and Cigs ....... I have gave up the Cigs (Circa August 2007 ) and now gave up the Sky contract (circa November 2009) .. and yes for all those who dont know .. u still have telly. u become a Freesat from Sky viewer. so one day when i do win the lottery i may again be able to view the likes of the Living channel .
