Yep have already tried that. Even found a previous firmware version and tried that too. Neither made any difference whatsoever.0 -

If all else fails, I would try this, its a check to see if the ASPI driver files are installed, if you had Nero you could use the info tool, this would give you all the info about your drive, I suppose you could always download a trial version, it just might help to shed more light on your problem.

I did get this drive working about 6 months ago, but the pc has just been rebuilt , and this drive has never worked since. It did have Nero on it before, so I'm wondering if Nero fixed it last time. I'm just trying to find my copy of Nero now to install it0 -

It says my chipset is Nvidia nForce.
When I look into the DVD drive in pcwizard it tells me the following.....

Ok, so I've installed Nero and its now all working fine..... have burnt a DVD and everything..... I'm happy its finally working, but its very irritating not knowing what was wrong.
