Ok, so a friend has bought an Emprex 16x DVD burner from PC World. It didnt come with any driver disk or anything like that. When it first got installed windows saw a new drive had appeared, but plug & play installed CD drive software for some reason
I've followed the instructions in the manual and updated the firmware, and no difference, even managed to find an older firmware version and still no difference.
Please does anyone have any ideas of where I can go next with it? I feel like throwing it out the window, but then I may have to fork out some cash for a new one.......:o
Thanks

Ok this is to do with the registry so be careful and do the backup as said.
(4. On the File menu, click Export.
5. In the File name box, type backup of drives key, and then click Save.)
Change key to 3 for DVD 1 for CDR 2 for CDRW.
If you do not feel happy doing this do not attempt as registry changes may affect the way your PC can operate.0 -

Thanks for that. I've just tried it and one drive was showing '1' and one was showing '3'. As they are both DVD drives I changed the '1' to '3'. It hasnt made any difference though, it's still showing as a cd drive0 -
Right click the drive and then, Properties, recording Tab, and see if you have any options to set as a DVD drive.
Also go into Hardware manager and check for Software updates.
Right Click My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, then right click on the drive and check for updates (update driver).
If no good try uninstalling both drives from Device Manager then restart PC and Windows may reinstall both drives correctly.0 -
Hi
Have you loaded any software to write to dvd's?
If not go and get burn4free and install it and see what happens.

No options to set as DVD drive, have checked for software updates (none). I have uninstalled it from device manager and rebooted. It then plugs & prays, sees it as a DVD RW 16x but then installs it as a CD drive......
Cheers for the help so far, any other ideas? I'm pretty good on computers, but this one has me baffled:rolleyes:0 -

Yes, I thought that might have been a problem, but it just tries to burn CD's, and fails when I try to burn a DVD0 -

Bios, maybe tap F2 or Del on start up.0 -

Yep, BIOS all seems fine. Its seeing the drive as a dvd rw as it should.......
I know its not the drive or the pc at fault as I have two identical drives, and two different pc's and the fault's are the same on both pc's.......0
