Good whiskey for Christmas?

I'd choose Oban - it isn't a peaty whisky, so depends on whether the drinkers like peat but it's more like £36 a bottle0

Oban is nice - especially the double barreled.
Difficult to get though now, as they only produce 1M bottles a year, and 50% of that is now exported.
Talisker is another fine Whisky, again look for Double Barreled for a distinctive taste but this is not for the faint hearted and quite peaty.
Also look out for Single Cask - difficult to get hold of, but very pricey too!
and yes it's Whisky! Whiskey is American/Irish and poorer quality! also it's Distilled now Brewed!
Don't skimp on the blends though like Bells or Grouse. Totally different ball park, go for single Malts.
For your price range you are looking at the distilleries that have high output so less demand and lower price, such and Glenmorangie.0 -
Highland Park is a favourite whisky with my Dad. It's often reduced in Tesco before Christmas. Or Talisker.
It's only a game

I would also recommend Highland Park.Never look down on anybody unless you are helping them up.0

Hi,
I buy from the Whiskey Shop. Luckily we have a store at the local shopping mall (its available online too). Those boys there really know their stuff. If you tell them the whisky your OH and brother like, they'll recommend something special of a similar taste/style....and it'll be a bottle you couldn't find at the supermarket, making it all the more special as a gift.
And I agree with uberalles about Lagavullin. Inhaling its peaty vapours is like smoking a fine cigar!Mirror, mirror, on the wall.I am my mother after all!0 -
One my hubby loves is Laphroaig (had to get the bottle to spell it).
It's supposed to have a peaty/smokey flavour.
Sometimes Morrison's have it on special offer at £18 per bottle (70cl), or it's normally about £23 per bottle.

Definitely smokey - my DH reckons it tastes like an old cigar butt! (great - means more for me!)ELITE 5:2

My OH loves Ardbeg, a ten year old whisky, and also likes Glayva which is a whisky liquer. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

At good food live they had a stall selling Spencerfield Co. Sheep Dip & Pig's Nose whiskey, I got some for my Dad & he said its some of the best he's tasted (and he likes his whiskey) - you can get it online: http://www.spencerfieldspirit.com/ they have some good gift sets too, not sure on the age of it, but he said it had a good flavour. hth x0
