Best cooker hoods? Plus Wickes q (come in mwillets!)

Does anyone have any recommendations for quiet, efficient extracting hoods for under £700? I can't find quite the answer I need having searched. I prefer metal and glass.

In addition, not having time to order a Wickes kitchen, what's the difference between the Takeaway and the Order ones?

Thanks, msv.

    Hi MSV

Its not just Mr W that knows about cooker hoods!!! ;)

I would look at Elica for hoods under £700 in steel and glass, I can't really think of any better make for that budget unless you were having say Neff appliances then have a Neff extractor to match. But I still think an Elica would be better value.

I'll leave Mr W to answer youe second question!

    Good luck

    :D Apologies CK :D

Thanks for your useful post. I've found this that I like, which is Neff and £392 here. I'd never heard of Elica until I'd seen it on here. Please could you explain why it would be better value?

    Thanks, msv.

Elica do the most beautiful extractors.

The prettiest is called Star. Out of budget though!

The takeaway kitches in wickes (the flat pack ones) are very cheep for a reason they are not suitable for anyone think of spending £700 on a cooker hood!

For example they don't have feet so your floor needs to be flat as they just sit on the end panels, which then means they can absorb water into the chip board.

The chip board is thinner 16mm it think and the backs are even thinner hardboard.

I fitted one of these, because money was tight I know I will have to change it but if I get 5 years out of it I will be happy .

If you need a kitchen quick I would look at B&Q trade pre built and Ikea (but Ikea does not have a space behind the units for services which may or may not be a problem)

BTW my cooker, hood and splash back was less than £700!

    Apologies accepted!

Well - we sell that Neff cooker hood for £346!

Elica is an Italian brand and they only make cooker hoods so what they do is always good for the money. For this style of hood though I think you would be hard pushed to get any better value than the Neff, especially if the rest of your appliances are Neff.

  • Ooh. Who's 'we'? ;) £50 saving would be great.

My appliances are all Bosch, but I'm not really bothered about matching brands, plus I didn't particularly like the Bosch hoods.

    Thanks CK. msv

You were done if you didn't get legs, the Wickes flat pack is quite good for the money.

The only pre built I've had were magent trade, all the B&Q I've seen were flat pack that I have fitted.

Looks like they have upgraded the Wickes pickup range then. Mine is 2 years old def was not "done" and it did not have all those special cupboards for fridges, and ovens then either. May well be worth another look when it needs replacing then.

B&Q trade in local B&Q are on show in the building section (plasterboard etc.) well away from the public looking at kitchens!

I was surprised at the cost of LuxAir hoods. They're really cheap compared to the equivalent from other companies.

I was concerned about quality but other MSE'rs had Luxair hoods and rated them highly so I bought one.

Looks good (imo) is effective and quiet (compared to others).

I bought a 90cm one for £199. I had expected to buy a Neff or Siemens but the cost was 3 times as much for a similar (but louder and less efficient) model.
