Why? Social fund loans come from there afaik and you don't have to be on benefit to apply.

You are correct, you don't need to be on benefits but the key word is 'loan' you must be able to demonstrate a way to pay it back
  • I think the local housing authority should have more compassion for these type of cases, when families are homeless and they need three bed accommodation and you got a single person living in a large home and cant afford to be there financially and want to move to a little bedsit, surely it would be easier to just do that.

I'm lost, I thought we trying to help a criminal find a home but now we have people with unkempt houses, individuals living in large properties and familes in small ones.

What exactly are we talking about?

Poverty of their own doing yes, everyone who is entitled to state benefits gets them once they have that money in their hands is where things go wrong. Your single parent situation didn't happen over night, why has this taken so long before someone has stepped in.

A lawn mower from freecycle a pot of paint and things would look differently.

  • When house was offered to client the garden was overgrown and a dump then, but council wont remove rubbish or do anything to the garden until a tenant has moved in because if house is empty other tenants just dump everything in garden. It was promised on sign up that the tenant would have garden cleaned and rubbish removed, unfortunately this has never happened as the officer who signed client up for tenancy never put tenants name down on list. Apparently its now too late to do anything even though we have photographs of garden from date of moving in, council just are not interested at all. Housing in the area I work is dreadful.

Client is depressed and has no motivation and tenancy is at risk and thats how i have become involved

Not being funny but maybe getting evicted would be the best thing for your client, as you say she lives in a 3 bed house she unable to look after or heat. As the kids have been removed from SS is she still entitled to a three bed housing benefit rate?

Surely a hostel woman aids type of place would be suitable for your client until she gets back on her feet.

I just can't see how throwing more money at this problem is going to help.
