Not sure if this is the right section but could not find anywhere else for it to go.

Does anyone know of a benevolant fund or charity that helps people who have just been released from prison to help get a deposit for private rented accommodation? I had heard of the Angel Trust but cant find the number anyone know of this charity?

and

A benevolant fund or charity who can help financially for people living in poverty?

I have searched for the last two weeks and made tons of phone calls but cant get any help from anywhere?

I appreciate any information

Thanks

My first guess would be shelter, other than that I have nothing.

if someone had just come out of prison and got help with a private rented place how would they afford to pay the rent? Would they be entitled to lha and jsa if say they had been in prison for 5 years so not paid any NI?
just curious as to how it would work

I guess they would get Income support  if they can't get JSA. LHA is payable to anyone.

    E2A:
    Money and benefits
Advice and support is available to prisoners on financial matters during custody to assist in their resettlement after release. Prisons work in partnership with Jobcentre Plus who are able to help prisoners with benefit claims such as Housing Benefit, and will advise on claiming benefits when released. At discharge, prisoners may be eligible for money in addition to a discharge grant to help secure accomodation on release.

Why? Social fund loans come from there afaik and you don't have to be on benefit to apply.
  • Already claiming benefits

a)I will give you a quick history on case 1

b)Single parent moved into local authority 3 bedded house with two children claiming correct benefits.

    c)Children removed by Social Services

d)Single person still living in three bed house, is on JSA and receives £42.50, having some money deducted from benefits for a crisis loan.

e)House been broken into three times

f)House has overgrown gardens - but has been like this since she moved in

g)Arrears on gas £2340, arrears on Electric £1300, no water has ever been paid bill for arrears £1300 as person has just registered, no tv licence.
Full hb and CT been awarded

h)Other debts mount to £1000 but managed to get most of them written off

i)no carpets anywhere in house, hardly any curtains - house is freezing as person can only afford to put heating on when JSA is received in persons bank

j)furnished sparcely and whats in property is not worth having,

k)House inside has been decorated but apparently its not up to council standard.

l)housing officer have informed person that they must get the house decorated otherwise action will be taken against person, explained circumstances and basically stated it still needs doing even though person has no money.

    m) cant do a transfer as house is not decorated up to standard and gardens are overgrown and a mess, cant do a mutual exchange as decorating is not up to standard and garden is overgrown and looks a mess.

m)gas and electric arrears are being taken back at gas - £7 and electric £6 through prepayment meters.

n)I was in there other day and it was absolutely freezing, I had to leave after being in there for one hour.

If anyone has any ideas for help I would appreicate it.
