Won an expensive pair of trainers on ebay £60
The seller neglected to mention that they came from a smokers home
They are impregnanted and smell like an ashtray,I unboxed them and put the in the hall and it has stunk the place out seriously
I can't launder them like I would clothing if it arrived this way
I put them in the garage for 2 days I sprayed them with fabreeze and they still smell just as bad as when they arrived
I have asked the seller to accept them back no reply yet
Where do I stand please would paypal support me if he refuses to refund ?
I wish this was smellyscreen its eye watering
My conscience would not allow me to re list them without saying I don't want to pass the problem on to some other poor soul so please dont suggest that

"Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.

Paypal will side with the buyer in pretty much any dispute, but I think this is maybe too far for them.
Presumably it doesn't say in the listing that the seller is a non-smoker, so it's not SNAD.
I do have sympathy- personally things that turn up smelling of baby sick turn my stomach, and smoke is nasty too- but that is the peril of buying secondhand goods online. This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.

I think that this is a case of buyer beware. If you specifically wanted smoke-free trainers, you needed to ask before buying. I doubt you would win a PP dispute (although feel free to try & let us know how you get on). I do sympathise though as I hate the smell of cigarette smoke personally. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
Give them a good soak and a scrub and then dry them out. Simples!0

agreed,if it doesnt say smoke free then dont assume
ive had to bin stuff before, terrible stink0 -
Have you tried tumble drying them on a very low temperature with one of those smelly sheet things you put in?
If it doesn't say smoke free on the advert, you usually have to ask.
If the seller won't accept a return, then you could leave a neutral warning others that the seller is a smoker.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
It always amazes me that things like trainers can smell as bad as the poster(s) describe. Seriously, shoes are about the furthest items of clothing away from the mouth!
Are you sure it is cigarette smoke? I bought a pair of shoes from Barratts online that stank when they arrived, I can only describe it as a "road tar" smell (which I quite like) it soon wore off though but it was a little odd and I was a bit embarrassed.
Alternatively, what make/size are they? I am on 20 a day so they won't bother me.0 -

If you are considering discarding them due to the smell, stick them in the washer, some trainers can be washed and you may end up with smell free shoes.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -

yep. I stopped smoking a few weeks ago and recently pulled out a plastic folder that had been stored in the conservatory where I used to smoke. It stank
