We have been with Sky since 2001, always paid our bill etc etc.
However we pay at the moment with the tv and broadband £53 a month, and to be honest we get nothing out of it.
We upgraded to a Sky+ box nearly 2 years ago, but now when things are tight and you are looking to reduce luxuries, it's an awful lot of money. Problem is we cannot get Virgin in our area and hubby says he cannot be without his sports package.
So we called Sky to see if they could do anything for us, and was told NO!!
We tried tactics calling and saying we were going to cancel, and each time we have never been offered any incentive tro stay or a reduction.
For new customers there are some fab deals, so could we cancel our subscription and then rejoin, and if so how long would we have to wait?
It seems you can get the basic package for £17.50 per month and then we could just add on the sports. Our phone is with BT anyway.
Any ideas or suggestions ????

Hi I don't have Sky myself, but I don't see why you can't cancel and reapply. You could check if there are any restrictions on their new joiners' offer on the T&Cs for new contracts.
It is worth checking some of the cashback sites such as Topcashback and Quidco (see http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/cashback-sites-comparison/Sky+Digital#content) as you will most likely be able to get cashback on your new contract.
The only downside I can see is that you will be locked into a new contract for x amount of months. Apart from that you should be able to make a good saving and obtain some cashback in return, not bad  !0 -
Thanks Nessie,
Apparently you have to wait 12 months before you can rejoin Sky ???
So I was told today by the ever so helpful people at Sky, after waiting on hold for 47 minutes !!!I'm a Chocoholic ..... and proud !!!0 -

You have to wait 12 months before being considered a "new customer" in regards to any special deals BUT you can rejoin at any time as a returning customer. If they did not have the 12 month requirement do you not think everyone would be cancelling and rejoining just to get deals.0 -
What about canceling sky and opening another sky account in a different name at that address ? say a maiden name ? that should get you the benefits ?You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0

It seems to me that this must work a bit like haggling mobile phone contracts.
In that case, and if you cannot live without sky for a year I suggest you do the following. Firstly find an alternative to sky, for example BT, Virgin, etc. Then call Sky and tell them you are "thinking" of leaving, as to speak to their customer retention team (or equivalent). Once you get through tell them you like Sky but it is too expensive for you, crdit crunch and so on, but importantly mention a credible alternative such as Virgin (Sky might not know you don't have access to Virgin in your area) or BT which will also offer Barclays Premiership matches. For this plan to work you will have to know what the alterative operator offers and be able to tell Sky why the alternative is a better option for you. Have a look at uswitch http://www.uswitch.com/digital-tv/
Hopefully by then and after a little haggling Sky will consider that your threat to leave is for real and offer you a tempting deal for you to stay with them... Worse that can happen is that you stay as you are, so definetely worth a try.0
