Hardrive brand question

Of those 2 I'd go for the Maxtor because I'd rather deal with an actual hard drive manufacturer if anything went wrong than with a company who are just putting someone else's drives into a box with their name on it.0

i think its quite an old maxtor drive so would probably be before mator segate tie up if that helps0

Which Barracuda batch was this? They are still not on sale are they?It also depends on the model, and when it was made. For no good reason disks from a particular batch may 'go off' quicker than others. The Seagate Barracuda firmware in recent times was a disaster. Before and after that level, they were reliable drives!0 -
Maxtor is part of Seagate now.Id go with Maxtor (But if I was to buy one myself id go with Seagate, Western Digital or Hitachi)
So it is a used drive? or just made a really long time ago?i think its quite an old maxtor drive so would probably be before mator segate tie up if that helps0 -
Take a look at the new Samsung F3 1TB drive -very fast and no more expensive than other drives of its size

-some places even have it cheaper than the older F1

Maxtor were taken over by Seagate a few years ago I believe but there are still new products being sold under the Maxtor brand. I deal with lots of computers where I work and back when they were separate companies I had far more failures of Maxtor drives than Seagate ones. Hopefully the merger has brought Maxtor reliability up rather than dragged Seagate reliability down.
I've not encountered a failed Samsung drive yet but their relativity small market share probably has a lot to do with that.
NB Past results are not an indication of future performance!0 -
See this Register article (and also note the Update at the top)...Which Barracuda batch was this? They are still not on sale are they?0 -
If it's a Sata drive i.e. Seagate, you can freely back up your whole system via http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/discwizard.catch220
