We moved into a property last December with prepayment meters which we had never had before, the supplier was EDF when we phoned to ask them to change them they said there would be a charge.
We contacted Scottish Power who were our supplier at our previous property they agreed to switch us to them and then changed the meters free of charge as we had been long standing customers of theirs had no bad payment history.0 -
I moved into an appartment that had debt from previous tennants, £2.000 worth to be precise and i had a tough time proving that i only moved in from a certain date as edf were not replyin to my faxes or phone calls. They installed a pre-payment meter and were charging me treble for electric to get the money owed to them. I finally sorted it out and my landlord had to pay off the bill to have the debt removed however we are now on a meter with a tariff called economy 7 and wondered if anyone knew what this actually means and whether switching to another company would help as my first bill was £91.00 and this was for just over a months worth of use. We are also been charged some of the previous debt but are going to sort that. Just wondering why the bill is so high on this tariff.0

You should not be on E7 unless you have electric storage heaters or plan to use electricity in the middle of the night. You pay a premium for power between 7am and 1am (approx) but get cheap power overnight. If you are using normal panel heaters or electricity for cooking you should not be on E7.0 -
in regards to your question, the 150.00 is a security deposit and is payable to yourself within a year, the other charges on top of that is the cost to remove the meters. if you live in a council property they will not remove the meters, if you own the property then they will change them for you but again you would have to pay the security deposit etc, i suppose if you complain about it and request to get plcaed through to complaints - you never know.0

Whatever happened to common sense from these energy suppliers, I seem to remember pre-payment meters used to have a bypass mechanism, whereby it was either set to take cash or with the flick of a mechanical switch, obviously secured behind the Elec'y Boards seals, it would then be a credit meter...the tarriff/amount could also be set by adjusting a cog, I'm either going back a long time or I must have dreamt it......maybe the utility suppliers meters should have this technology built in digitally with tele switch pulse control to switch over.....hang on.... I'm sounding like a nerd now...;)There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

What they should do is make all meters card or fob meters - but make the tariffs the same as the ones you can get online or basically with normal supply
End of mile high bills that come out of the blue, end of thousands of debt because people have run away from their bills, end of people having to find hundreds of pounds because they have been billed incorrectly... and if your meter wasn't working properly you'd notice VERY quickly
Simples...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
