:rotfl: Really? As simple as that eh? Just whack up a few more houses. But...where are these houses to be built? Should we build on ALL the green land in England? How are we to pay for these houses? What about the additional services all these houses will require? Schools, roads, public transport, jobs for the people moving into the houses, doctors, dentists...the list is endless.
The only answer is to immediately rescind the right to buy and the right to acquire. If you want to buy a house, go and pay the asking price for a house in the open market.0 -

An individual person employing independent tradespeople will cost far more than the council will spend using it's own or contracted staff and it's ability to bulk buy!0 -

So morals should be slung out of the window on these forums as well?
There is a difference between abuse and standing up to what is right and wrong.0 -

i dont actually think this should happen its like i said speculating. poeople have had their houses compulsory purchased before although not for this kind of thing.
my idea could actually happen in the future if the housing situation continues to get worse. lets hope it doesnt get that bad.
I've heard it all now :rotfl:0 -
Why would the council bulk buy to do one house up?0

Perhaps also adopt the Italian social housing system, where the tenants are assessed annually. The following years rent is fixed on the tenants income for the previous year. Some tenants are then made to pay as much as a private rental, while others are told to find private housing or are moved to smaller or larger sized, social housing. In Italy, social housing is not for life and this seems a much fairer system.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

They bulk buy so that they can maintain/refurbish all their properties. That's why council houses in an area will usually all have the same kitchens/bathroom fittings etc. This isn't the only property they'll be resonsible for, you know.0 -

I may have got the wrong impression from the newspaper report. It is the local Council who have purchased the house. They are no longer landlords of any social housing in my area and as such, are not responsible for any housing/refurbs/repairs. We are given the impression that they are to be responsible for this particular house as it is the first of what will possibly be several other compulsory purchases.0
