Council tenant

it does seem unfair doesnt it. just because they would be living in a house by themselves. how does the council know you wont get married and have kids 6 months later. what if you cant afford to move.
the answer to the shortage of housing stock is to build more houses rather than useing the rent money to pay for pay rises and unnecessary modernisation work on existing houses. the heating bill in my local councils main building must be a fortune because when i walk into the building its like walking into a furnace its that hot. my point is they waste money on so many things most of which i cant even think of.0 -

I think it a great shame that you've manipulated the system for your son's benefit and I hope that this has now been stopped in your area!
so you think kicking people out of their home is ok then just because they arent fortunate enough to be able to buy their own house like yourself. how would you like it if the counncil compulsory purchased your house for some big family and told you to move into a smaller house?
i agree there are people that you can class as having greater need but the answer is to build more houses. how many houses are there boarded up? the councils could renovate these houses instead of modernising existing houses.
has anyone also considered the devastating affect kicking someone out would have on them. they have just lost a close relative and they are all alone and now they are being kicked out as well. in my case there is only me and my dad. when he dies i will be all alone in the world. if on top of that i was kicked out i think i would be looking for ways to end it all.0 -
Even if you do get him on the tenancy then you raise question regarding taking a tenancy in order to claim housing benefit.
lol. this post is hilarious. how about taking over a tenancy because it has been your home for a long time and you dont want to be on the street. if you were able to find a private tenancy you would still be able to claim housing benefit. its not for council tenants only you know.0 -

wouldnt it be alot less hassle and grief causing to let them stay were they are and put the family into a private house?0 -

Yet again, you are commenting on something you do not understand. :rolleyes:Gone ... or have I?0 -

He lives with his dad who gets pension credit, council tax credit, housing benefit etc in a HA flat. He's pays for part of the rent and also council tax not covered by the council because he lives there.
He's looking to become a joint tennant with his dad and wanted to know if he would then be liable for the whole rent and council tax. I thought that he would (should, but that's another matter) have to pay full rent and councl tax as a joint tennant rather than a dependant who was living there as a 'guest'.
Who's right me or him?
anyone on the tenancy is legally responsible for rent, council tax and taking proper care of the house.0 -

they suggested that they only wanted to keep living in the house to claim housing benefit. do you think that was a fair comment? it is you who doesnt understand if you think it was a fair comment.
i made two points in response. the first was they would understandably want to keep living were they have lived for years. the second was even if they moved out they would still be able to claim housing benefit. which of those two points do you think is wrong and why?0 -

How on earth can you comment about my housing situation, when you know nothing about me. Perhaps I'm one of those people who've been on a waiting list for 20 years because someone's son's taken over his mother's tenancy, regardless of need?
Did you ever think of that?0 -
