    hello jennie,
Try not to worry, you still have plenty of time to find the answers to all your questions.
Lots of posters have given you all the help you need to find out.

Can I just ask about your salary and rent.
Is the £17000 per year gross as rent of £750 per month is £9000 which is 53% and not 80% (four fifths).
If your rent is 4/5 of your net salary you must be getting about £11250 per year or £937 per month. Are the benefits on top of this?
Your REAL problem is you are paying too much rent.
Please forgive me if I have made a mistake with the figures or completely misunderstood your post.

yes you are correct 17k is the gross, and the benefits are on top of this. so with the child benefit, tax credits and housing benefit i can get by, any loss in income will cause problems. I went bankrupt last year so am now only paying daily expenses and have no debts at all, but the thought of losing half of the benfits i do get is quite scary, and yes i pay too much rent, but £750 is good for a 3 bed house in my area (oxfordshire) and the council say that no matter what they will not house me as i dont have enough "points", they would rather dump me in a homeless hostel in oxford city, then i would not be their problem, but the city is 12 miles away from my daughters school and 20 miles from my workplace.

Tis all very frustrating, why is affordable housing too much to ask for.
