£100 per month

Options
I have recently become single, which has meant moving to a new flat and paying everything on my own, I have covered all the bills, rent and large loan and I am left with £100 per month to get petrol / food / going out.

I have read lots of other threads but has anyone got any specific advice for £100 spend per month.

Thanks

Lisa

im new here but just from past experience maybe this is the time for you to start cutting down, do you have to go out??

i dont drink but love going to gigs and buying clothes, i havent done either of theses for god knows how long, which is very hard but needs must at times.

i know it will be hard but give it a go, save that surplus you have for a few months then treat yourself

Any chance you could go into a houseshare or as a lodger somewhere thats often cheaper?

If you wanted us to look at your SOA, we might be able to find you some savings from somewhere too :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

    hey there,

I think the best thing will be for you to post an SOA (statement of affairs) showing all your income and all your outgoings, the kind peeps on here will be able to help you to cut down your expenditure and increase your income.

    Here goes:

    Rent £560 ( one bed )
    Rates £83.00
Loan £631.03 APR 4.9% 25 months left to run
    Gas £10
    Elec £10
    Water £10.00
    Mobile £25.00
    Telephone and Internet £26.00
Christmas savings Club £20.00 runs until Oct will get £200 vouchers back
    Credit card £35.00
    Savings £100

    Total £1510

    Salary £1700

    Leaves £ 190

£100.00 for day to day living expenses and £90.00 for emergencies / slush fund.

I have aside £10.00 per month all DD,s towards utility bills, can then pay any extra balances out of savings. Old house had storage heaters and water meter so very used to turning of ligths and taps etc to try and keep the bills as low as possible.

I don't smoke and drink really occasionally and don't miss it if I go weeks without a drink.

Credit card Balance £744 at 5.9% and £600 at 11.9% - have just applied for capital on card 0% until September 2007, £35.00 per month to start eating away at that balance, will then canx current cards.

Have just changed mobile from Orange to T mobile ( crappy service ) but price plan 750 off peak £20.00 per month £5.00 extra calls. The 750 minutes should cover my evening calls aswell.

Planning to get BT land line £11 per month and then use Tiscali for broadband ( yet to do this )

Have paid home contents and TV licence upfront for the next year.

    This should cover it.

    Thanks

What the heck is this? This is a blatant rip off and you would be better saving the money yourself!

Sorry to be a bit enthuiastic there but they are clearly the ones being better off thanks to this.

I would try to get your money back

With regards paying back the cards (how much is the limit on the cap 1 card? transfer as much of the 600 you owe on the 11.9% card to that), pay the minimum amounts on the other 2 card (the 5.9% and cap 1) and then pay off whatever is left over to the 11.9% card.
Once that is paid concentrate on the 5.9 card until that is paid.
    Then clear the 0% card

***the cap 1 is 0% on balance transfers????***

One of the girls at work runs a Food Hamper scheme, you pay for ten months and get the exact value back - I know that there is no interest but I am the type of person who takes comfort in putting monay aside, so I know hat I will have in x amount of months ( this was originally for the christmas food bill, I was going to get M and S and Sainbos vouchers and all our christmas food would then be paid for ). Hence also paying £30 towards annual bills and paying the balance of when they come.

I don't know that if I with draw form the scheme what will happen to the £100 that they have already had from me.

But thanks for your enthuiastic response!
