Safeway's Booze Bargains!!

Our Safeway became a Waitrose, and i used to think Safeway were expensive

You can't beat Waitrose for quality though! You do get what you pay for. Their fruit and veg far outlasts Asdas. It may be double the price, but it last twice as long.

bobbed in again last night and not much left but got 3 bottles of red plonk for 1.24 each and bottle of Tia Lusso for about 4 quid...

hope they do this at someone elses store too.... ???

Are safeway has just begun refurb to morrisons and they are doing it while we work over the next 9 months so no bargains yet.

I live in Kenilworth,Warwickshire & we have a Somerfields. Their special offers are well worth looking at.I prefer them to the local Sainsburys & Budgens.

my safeway/morrisons had a lot of stuff reduced today (like the old safeway used to do quite often) the only booze I managed to get was 2 small bottles of Stella Artois for my son @ 19p each, which I managed to grab before someone else did! I did manage to get a lot of other bits and pieces like Twix 10 pack @ 29p, 16 pack of finish powerball for 39p and lots of name hair products @ 49p, well worth the trip.

Just found some relavant info on the Safeway/Morrisons take over.

Morrisions is required by the Office of Fair Trading to sell 52 stores to meet competition regulations. The stores sold to date are as follows:

• 14 stores to Waitrose
• 14 stores to Sainsbury's
• 1 store to West Midlands Co-op
• 3 stores to Asda
• 10 stores to Tesco
• 1 store to Netto
• 1 store to Lidl
• 114 'Safeway Compact' stores to Somerfield
• Closure of one leasehold store in Leeds

So yes, most of the "Safeway Compact" stores (smaller Safeway stores) have been sold to Somerfield as Morrisions wants to concentrate on the larger stores.

I wasn't aware that Morrisions had converted some Safeway stores to Morrisions and sold them on soon afterwards. Seems like a bit of a waste of money.  ;D
