BT Vision deal. Is it worth it?

Hello.
BT phoned me today to offer me 12 months of BT Vision at £6.50 per month for a year. It would be £15 for the BT vision + box and they would throw in ESPN for free (didn't mention the usual connection fee).
I've been subscribed to SKY for 4 years and I'm getting fed up due to the terrible playback problems with Sky + making some programmes (especially on 5) unplayable.
The only Sky programs I watch regularly are "Fringe" and "Lie to Me" on Sky 1, and occasionally "Stargate" etc.
I'm on the 6 mix pack (no sports - even though I'd like some, it's way to expensive. No movies)
I have a couple of questions.
1) Is BT Vision any good? How does it compare to Sky?
2) They BT guy said you can get "Fringe" and "Lie To Me" was coming, and I know they often put whole series on at a time, but I'm up to speed with Sky's pace. How far behind are BT Vision with these programs?
3) My phone line is nowhere near the TV. Do I need it to be next to it for BT Vision? I saw there was a plug device (about £70) but it's around the same price to put in a new plug - and I'd have to consider the extra potential cost here too.
I'm tempted by this deal because as I say I'm getting beyond fed up with Sky and many of the programs I watch are available on Freeview (channel 5, ITV etc) but I do like Sky One.
