If you don't mind me asking, what did you study at university and what career area are you hoping for?
If you tell us these things it might be possible for someone here to give you more specific advice.
I studied psychology but there doesn't seem to be that many options that don't involve further study. I don't really want to study at the moment. That's why I saw voluntary work as a way of getting experience of working with people which would maybe open up different options in the future. At the moment my experience is limited to admin in work.
What I want to do is not so much th problem. At the moment I am having a panic because it is taking a lot longer than I thought to get paid work. The pressure is really on at the moment but if I jack in my voluntary work I know I will regret it and it would have been a waste of time for all concerned. Decisions, decisions...
Sorry for taking over your thread OP, it just got me thinking.0 -

Is that really the way you wish to start a career/working life? By being dishonest at the very beginning?
Apply for a seasonal job at Tescos/Asda/Argos/Waitrose . Or apply for a job in a pub/restaurant. You don't need to go to the Job Centre to get a job ....there are a few out there - might not be entirely what you want, but they will pay - not a lot - but enough whilst you are on your gap year and should enable you to be independent.0 -
Ok, panic over for now I think.
Seen a couple of really promising things today. One is a full time job with evening and weekend shifts (suggested by the jobcentre), the other is a traineeship
Better get applying. Fingers crossed!!0 -

Maybe they are but a psychology degree does not actually qualify you to do much. I would need to do a lot of further study to become a psychologist.
Anyway, one application down...0
