  • Hi,
Does anyone here have experience of a 'bad credit' credit card improving a credit rating suffering from 1 or more defaults. I have 2 defaults and my credit rating is now very poor. I dont want to waste my time trying to rebuild my rating if the defaults outway any good the new credit card would do. So is it worth the effort?

    How old are the defaults?
  • About 18 months old for both.

At the suggestion of MoneySavingExpert I applied for an Eclipse prepayment card to enable me to rebuild my credit rating. I now find that I cannot access the website eclipsecard.co.uk to check my balance and transactions, and an email to their help email address has been returned as undeliverable. Every attempt at the website throws up virus warnings: This site may harm your computer.
    Should I be worried?
There is an alternative website eclipse.byinstinct.com but it may be a scam site. Can anybody help?

I just took a look and my Norton AV stopped me accessing it. I would steer well clear. Problem is scammers always target people searching for help because they see you as a soft target.

This card looked good to replace the non-Reward version, so I asked whether I could upgrade. Bloke said the Reward card is "only for new customers". However their computer accepted an application for one, and does not ask which cards one already has!

I am thinking about getting "Cashplus Creditbuilder" - if I just pay the monthly fee and don't actually use the card, would this work in improving my credit score?

Or would I better to use the card for something every month, pay on receiving statement plus relevant monthly fee?

    Many thanks

@newuser78 my advice would be to check the other cards first (read up on how best to check), as with the creditbuilder you're effectively paying for the privilege
my guess then would be no added value if you did or didn't spend on it, so possibly avoid the risk and don't spend on it?
