you have to pay by DD every month apparently (either in part or in full...!)

Since it doesn't ask for bank details as part of the application and approves the card, when are they going to ask for these?

    That can't be right.

If a person does not want to pay by direct debit then they take the card away, after they've sent you one? I don't think so ....

If that is the case, they would have had to let you know on application so that you can 'cancel' the application if you don't want to pay by direct debit.

I used to have this card many years ago and I paid by statements. That's what I used when I reclaimed charges and PPI from them after the account was closed. I'm surprised they've sent me another card as they still owe me nearly a grand from the first account ....

You don't have to pay by direct debit...I only got my card in June, when I activated it the chap said can I take your bank details to set up a DD. I said no thank you. I will pay you online each month. He was fine with that. Maybe they just prefer you to pay by DD. It transpires afterwards that I did after agree to pay online by DD each month ( I did this online as opposed to over the phone) I clicked pay min amount and then I make extra payments straight after using the card (within a couple of days) so technically they will never use the DD as the balance should always be 0. But I had it as an insurance that I never miss a payment...you never know what could crop up that could prevent me doing it in time.

They've told me they'll send paper statements:
    Your statements

We'll send you an estatement reminder before your paper statement every month.

Remember that you can cut down on filing and help reduce the potential risk of identity theft by going paper free.

You can act like I'm not telling the truth as much as you like, but when I got my card and rang up to activate, I was told to set up a DD but I said no, I didn't want to and they said it was a "condition of this card" that you set up a Direct Debit..

Maybe the Indian call centre bloke was telling fibs to get me to do it then!

I don't disbelieve you, I have no doubt the person the phone was just saying it, their rules and conditions change dependant upon the person in India :p

    I also don't disbelieve you ....

As far as I am concerned, I've been told they'll send me paper statements so it's good enough for me.

Well mine arrived today. I called up to activate and it was a UK call centre. Very polite on the phone and knew what she was doing. There was no need to set up a DD though I did. And i've turned off paper statements.

Anyone know what the fees are for purchasing items abroad in Euros?

Mine also arrived today and when I rang to activate it they only asked if I wanted PPI or setup a DD and I declined both. I was then told that's fine and your statement will be sent on XX of the month.

They warmly welcomed me as a new customer so I didn't bring up the matter of the nearly £1,000 of default charges (plus interest) they owe me from my old account, which they insisted on sending to a fully 'cash paid' settled DCA account (the FOS agreed) but sent me a cheque for the PPI refund (which was less than £100). I still don't understand it and 'lost' the charges refund. Means I paid the DCA twice and though they know it, they won't send me a refund and the balance is showing as a 'credit' on their system.

This card will be used only in an emergency as the low credit limit is not worth anything else.
