just not a limited one. I am aware this means that the assets of the person in a sole trader structure isn't protected in the same way as a limited company -the company and person is considered the same...

You are getting confused about the status. They cannot be a sole trader and a limited company. They are two separate means of running a business.

I perhaps wasn't being clear because my observations were split across two posts.

I know that a sole trader company and a limited company are two different structures.

Indeed and very wise point, as the vacuum for repair services can be filled by cowboys who take a fancy that they have technical and customer skills, perhaps dream they are some kind of entrepreneur because they place a few ads on the internet, then are slow to realise that they can't manage a simple business,..but its beyond their capacity .....
