Who has really saved money by switching suppliers?
Options
I know the comparison websites show amounts you could save (and last year we moved to a capped duel fuel deal with British Gas) but I can't put my hand on my heart and prove that we saved money by doing so. Can anybody produce some solid proof that switching actually saves you the amount of money they say you will. If we switch again I'm worried we'll have a lot of hassle and waste time and effort that actually won't be worth it.

I changed from British Gas and EDF to EBICO. With BG I was barely moving off the 1st tariff for gas and nearly halved the bills with EBICO although they were not that high to start with. The current electricity usage is cheaper with EBICO than what EDF although there is less in it than the gas.0

I moved from npower to BG (electric only). The difference in tariff price was at least 3p per kwh so I can categorically say I've saved money by switching.0

Yes Primrose, I saved money by switching away from Powergen to Ebico.
Also save by changing heating habits and by insulating to the nth degree.
Also saved money by cashback (22% a year) by temporally moving (in summer)to whoever is paying the most commisssion, and then back to Ebico for the cold months.0 -
In my area on my predicted usage the best online tariffs are pretty close, sometimes as close a quid (between the top two), sometimes as much as 50 quid apart. Although the big 6 bring out new tariffs quite regularly, so it seems they are never too far apart for very long.
I've been with Eon for quite a few years and the money I've saved is by having an online tariff, watching for their new tariffs regularly (as they never inform you of new ones), switching where necessary. Which is easy online and submitting readings to maximise your newer tariff discount.
The other huge money saver was the use a summer quilt in the winter evenings when the kids are asleep, and keeping control of the thermostat. I actually slashed my bills last winter despite it being the coldest for years.0 -
Bear in mind that some companies are not on switching websites (eg: Ebico, Utility warehouse)0

Ebico (and presumably UW) should be on every comparison site. Please let us know of any comparison site that does not include ebico.
As ebico do not pay commission, you may not be able to switch using the comparison site but the comparison site is obliged to list them.
Ebico even list a dozen comparison sites on their own website

We moved from NPower to EDF three years ago and yes, we are saving a bit. Not loads but let's face it, utilities are expensive and that's not going to change.
A person can't expect simply switching suppliers to magically lower the bills. You need to take responsibility for your consumption and ensure you're doing everything you reasonably can to keep the bills under control. :j0 -

A friend of mine phoned Ebico and told them his usage and they actually told him to go to energyhelpline to check if they were the best deal (they were not as his usage was fairly high)
Good service there, you can tell they are a not for profit organisation :TMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
