  • Hi- hang on in there - am sure you will feel better when you have got stuff going into your new bank account.
With regards to the buses - there is a great website traveline http://www.travelinesoutheast.org.uk/se/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en&timeOffset=15
that I use - am sure they have different regional websites as well - dead easy to use and lets you know the best buses etc.
If you have any problems with regards to food etc - head over to oldstyle and they will show you how to eek out what foods you have in and what to buy to get you through -also any clubcard type vouchers you can use to get you by?
If your bank are being a pain I woudl try your MP and see if he can intervene on your behalf.
Also I would try and contact the people you owe money to eg council tax, gas /electric and let them know the situation and tell them you will pay them what you can, when you can.
Hope today goes well for you - good luck.

  • Memorygirl reading your last post made me remember my days as a single mum on benefits, and how you just keep going for your kids. My heart goes out to you and your boys. Like others have said contact your creditors and let them know what has happened and all the steps you are taking. Def go to your MP if you have the time and the energy as the way you have been treated is in my opinion outrageous. Hope that when the new a\c is open you feel a bit better. Your boys are lucky to have such a strong resourceful mum who loves them. Chin up and I am rooting for you
  • Have you demanded the money back from the bank ??

Have you demanded the money back from the bank ??

Nope!!! But I did get back in after being soaked several times (with nappies you will be pleased to hear)to find a letter from the bank demanding full repayment of my mortgage minus the monies they have frozen.

I have never not paid my mortgage - but because I can't magic up £10k from thin air they are threatening to take our home. I'm not sure if they are just threatening or its actually going to happen

Sometimes it hard to remember to breathe.

The good news is that CCCS have managed to get me an appointment for next Tuesday - so if anyone has a list of what I need to have prepared for them I would appreciate it greatly. I've to phone the bank, give them my reference number and ask them to put everything on hold for 30 days.

More good news. Lovely lady at BOS is opening up a basic bank account for me (but it could take up to 2 weeks). Had my 2 boys with me at the meeting so at least DS saw today that Banks are not ALL such terrible places - although I think I would feel better having the cash sitting in my biscuit tin from here on in.

Can't get through to DWP, Child benefit or Tax Offfices. Will have to walk over to Job Centre to use their free phone cos mine has eaten all the credit I can afford for this month. Need to check that they are going to make all future payments into my other account from here on in.

One day soon - when I am back at work this is all going to make a fantastic seminar story - and the devil in me is sorely tempted to name names.

What should be my next step guys??

Grrrrrr!!! Now the Child Tax Credit people say that they sent a payment to the bank today - despite yesterdays conversation.

Apparently if the bank sends it back it can get reissued - can take upto ten additional days. If they don't return it then there is nothing they are prepared to do.

Oh!!! and they can't guarantee that the next payment will not be sent to the Clydesdale either.

So anyone taking bets if the bank is likely to return the money???????? Yup!! I don't think I can bank on that either.

I could ask for another crisis loan - but frankly all that does is put me deeper in debt because they have to be paid back - and I don't think I will ever see hide or hair of the C Tax monies from the bank.

What are you supposed to do - if I could find anyone to weep in front I would try that because explaining that "I have precisely 71 pence to my name" got me absolutely nowhere.

Surely they cannot keep taking my benefits?? How do I feed the kids??? Should I go to local branch with our sleeping bags and say "we are here for the day because we can't put the electric on at home - and can you feed the kids when your sandwich van comes round at lunchtime????"

Actually the thought of that raises one of the few smiles of the day.

Tell me this gets better guys?

  • Do it. Go into the branch that is, with the kids. Phone ahead and request an emergency appointment with the branch manager. It must be the branch manager and no-one else will do. Don't leave until they let you have some money for living expenses.

What they are doing to you is immoral and people should not put up with it.
My Debt Free Diary I owe:

    Aug 16 £19519 Dec 16 £17708
    Sep 16 £18780 Jan 17 £17082

  • Oh and I should add, really, really don't leave the branch until this is resolved to your satisfaction. If they have to call the police to get you out then so be it - at least the kids will get a hot meal :-)

I'm out the door with the baby in the buggy. Apparently any monies that come into the account once its frozen has to get put into a "suspense account". (Thank you the v kind if little outraged bank employee who has just gotin contact):T

I can then ask for those funds to be released to me under the Social Security Administration Act - as I need access to these funds to live.

I'm off to get whatever I can

    Wish me luck

PS I realise its nearly closing - but maybe then they will get a wiggle on
