citibank savings account-don't bother

Applied online for this account, got sent a card and e-pin. after 3 weeks of trying to get through to activate my card-finally achieved activation this morning. then tried to register my account online with the card number and e-pin so I could finally get my savings into this high rate instant access account(3.3%). however, when trying to register the details they have sent me apparently they don't match with the ones they have. i have rung back several times/sent an email, been given hopeless information and have reached the end of my tether. i've ripped up the paperwork, and will now look for a better company to save my money with. what a waste of time Citibank. appalling!!

Had my ING account up and running within a week.
  • Citibank are a mickey mouse operation who I wouldn't trust with a single pound of my money. The worst I have ever dealt with. That 3.3% savings account is a total nightmare to open. Eventually, after 2 months, I found out they declined me because of "security reasons" which they wouldn't even explain. I should be GLAD. Moving money around with them would have been an absolute nightmare judging by their terrible customer service which in every case was handled by someone who could not understand what I was saying and who could barely speak English.

think we get the message Rob, you've posted the same thing on 3 different threads. Maybe it's just that they couldn't verify your identity, are you on the electoral roll ?

For what its worth, although it was a pain to open, once set up it seems to operate well.

Tell that to the people who have been waiting on the end of the phone line for 2 hours only to get through to someone who can barely string a sentence together in English.

Took me six minutes to get through to a well spoken representative. The account was activated with no problem

    Others experience may be different.

I had no issues. opened quickly and activation worked quickly too although I did have to call that other number not the one they quote.
  • I've had no problems either, got through quickly on the phone and activated straight away.

I too was on the phone long time to open the account. However once opened you shouldn't need to ring them again as it can be operated online. I spoke to a very polite and efficient Indian lady whose English was better than most in this country.
  • I applied online and received cards etc v quickly. Could I get thru to activate the account?? Nope. Took 3 weeks then got thru to India. I subsequently had problems with them saying my linked bank account was wrong. I then emailed customer service (a misnomer if ever there was one. This was 2 weeks ago and I have not even had a reply. Basically, don't bother with them.

No problems here either. Opened within a week and now have pretty much all my savings in the account.

Got through very quickly on the phone. All in all, I'm very happy with Citibank.
