Upgrade/IPhone advice

Hi,

My 18 month contract with Orange has come to an end, at present I am currently paying £32.50 per month for 600 minutes and unlimited texts, along with free home broadband, this usage pretty much suits my needs.

I am now looking at my upgrade options and so far Orange have offered me a N97 as upgrade but ideally I would like an Iphone 32gb but am not really willing to pay much for the handset or increase my line rental massively. I do have Sky Tv, so I could switch my broadband with them if I lose my home broadband as part of the deal.

I am just wondering whether you think I am likely to be able to negotiate a deal in line with the above with either Orange or O2 or whether I should consider scrapping the Iphone idea and going for a different handset.

Thanks in advance.

No one knows (yet) what Orange will want for an iPhone, but they have said that they won't be starting a price war. And with Apple telling them what they can change for the iPhone they wouldn't be able to any way. The war will be on the number of minutes and text you get...

    Ok thanks for that
  • I am too interested in getting the ipod 3gs 32gb as my next phone as I'm out of contract. But looking on the o2 website and carphone warehouse the sort of deals that seem available for the iphone in terms of the amount of texts and minutes you can get is nothing in comparison to the unlimited texts and x amount of minutes you can get with a free handset from another phone manufacturer. The thing I'm going to try when I get back home to England is trying to get a deal in the shop and go searching for the best deals!
  • There doesnt seem to be much around at the moment though does there.

Handset prices are fairly consistent across the board - regardless of retailer - I believe this is influenced by apple. Demand outstrips supply at the moment, so they have no need to reduce handset prices. Hopefully when Orange release it at least the tariffs will be a lot more competitive.

Orange have already said they won't be starting a war on the price of the handset, and as Apple dictate the price the networks can charge they couldn't even if they wanted to.

You may be able to play one of against the other when Voda get the iPhone after Christmas, but again only on the number of minute/text...

I had seen that, does anyone have any site suggestions for finding the right Iphone deal so I can go back to Orange with and haggle?

As my friend claims that he pays £35 a month for his Iphone 3Gs and didnt have to pay for the handset, through what he claims to be a special deal he got from O2 but I cant seem to find anything that comes close to it.

The iPhone is a premium phone, there's alot of demand, you won't be able to haggle much at all with Orange, expect to either pay towards the handset or not get a reduction in line rental, or maybe even both
  • I hear that vodafone will get the iphone after Christmas - this could make it a bit more competitive and the prices/cost might come down a bit - or am i living in a dream world?
