Orange unlimited mobile - yeah right
Options
Hi All
AM new to this site so be nice!!!
I upgraded my phone recently I have been with Ornage several years and wanted the HTC Hero as I want to use my ohone for work which entails me being online a lot and social networking for which I can sync all my accounts up with my phone and they run constantly, I had noticed a good deal with vodaphone so I told Orange I was leaving as they were trying to charge me £90 for the phone when VF was free, so obviously they waived the fee and offered me my usual mins and texts plus unlimited web!!
The contract did not start until the 18th so basically I had my new phone and old contract of 250 meg max free. I noticed 3 days before the end of month I had gone over my meg of 250, I had never done this with previous phone (N95) however the HTC Hero has apps open automatically so you can sync all your social networking and emails and bookmarks etc and further more its all linked up to google etc so your straight on it without logging on each time - this was the main reason I wanted the hero as my old phone was not web geared and took an age and I have been needing to use my phone for browsing more and more!!
So back to my point.....I rang up Orange who told me that I had gone over my monthly limit, I said well the phone is geared up for the internet so it is always going to be like this but this was my main reason to take the unlimited web package, the advisor then turned and told me that 'SORRY unlimited is a MAX of 500 meg a month' I suggested that when I took the verbal contract over the phone it was not stipulated that unlimited meant 500 and not UNLIMITED, he apologised. I am now concerned I may go over 500 meg each month. As I presumed unlimited meant just that I now have a concern if I run over my meggage which is far from good considering I upgraded for the very reason of a) using my phone alot for web and b) thinking unlimted meant unlimited!
Will I beable to get round this with Orange if I go over 500 meg this month do you think, has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks in advance

You can check the amount of data you have used/got left by dialing 150 then option 1/1 then 3. You can also check by going the the Your Account section of Orange World from your mobile. If you find that 500 mb is not enough you can buy a 1 gig bundle for £10.00 pm or add the evening and weekend data bundle on to your account for £5.00 pm.0

Thanks for that talkalot, I do usually check my Orange on 150 which is why it came to light I had gone over on my mins, however its not working this month and they have upgraded on their 150 system so perhaps thats why. My gripe is unlimited should mean just that I would have thought but to not tell you and lead you to believe otherwise I don't think is right!0

Unfortunately it has been argued (can't remember by whom or when) that unlimited in the case of those with more money than you or I, does not have to mean 'without limits' providing it is stipulated somewhere you would never ordinarily read.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I renewed and was told that my limit was 500Mb too, so you are not being singled out. Actually, that will be quite enough for me, so I have no problem.
Have a look on Google and see if there is any way of reducing your data use on that phone. Rest assured, you won't be the first with that problem.0 -
Grrrr but the nice lady who sold me my new package did not say unlimited meant there was 500 meg limit!! I never got a written contract or anything that would have small print it was over the phone!0

No networks unlimited is ever unlimited. Some give more than others but there's no such thing as real unlimited. . .0

Hence the argument it shouldn't be marketed as such.

Mr SouthEast has a very valid point (and I wasn't trying to justify the term). While its not illegal it is most certainly immoral.0

Just flicking idly through the posts and would refer you to this thread, particularly post #6. You may have already seen it.

I was sold unlimited internet by dailaphone with no mention of limits in my contract, so when vodafone charged me back when it was 120MB limit, trading standards made them cough up the charges i had incurred.
There is a petition on No. 10 website asking that it be made simple, unlimited means unlimited they cannot charge you it, virgin media get away with it by limiting the speed at peak hours (traffic shaping) whilst maintaining they have an unlimited service.
I am totally against be charged for for exceed and unlimited policy, slow it down, or stop it all together, but don't charge people are they aren't going to be expecting it! Feels like false advertising.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
