I suspect mentioning the BMW's poor fuel economy compared to an EVO is a bit pointless.
Which Evo anyway? (Assume you meant the 335i or d as none of the others are comparable to the EVO)
Evo Pro's
Speed
Handling
IPracticality (4 Door Saloon)
Kudos
Rare
Reliability
Cons
Insurance
Road Tax
Fuel Economy (Low 20's at best)
Servicing (Costly and More Often)
Image (More likely to be stolen)
BMW Pro's
Handling
Reliability (Not always the Case though)
Looks
Cons
Too Common
Image (Think BMW Drivers)
Base Spec + Cost to Add Additional Spec
Only 2 Door
Small Boot (Seats don't fold - AFAIK)
There are lots of good things about BMW but they certainly not reliable. My BMW is the most unreliable car I've owned. Everyone I know who has one has also had a lot of trouble with various things. I really don't know why they have a reputation for reliability.0 -

Although it did seem to be in the garage quite a bit with annoying little problems...0

I drive an Evo IX (that's an Evo 9, OP
) and test drove a X while she was being serviced. I absolutely hated it. You might as well get a BMW because the X is not an Evo. Awful car. :A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

Nonsense.
I could say the same thing but refer to a VW I had a few years ago. ABS failed at 34k and cost me over £500 to fix. Then the main bearing in the gearbox failed at only 42k and it cost me over £400 to fix.
And it wasn't a sporty model either - VW Polo 1.4 16v with full history bought from a VW dealer.
I think everyone who has owned several cars over several years of driving will have experienced one car that is below expectation. In your case it's BMW. In mine it's VW. Someone else may say it's Ford/Vauxhall/Rover/whatever.
But you can't then make blanket statements like "I don't know why they have a reputation for reliability".
It also depends on what faults you experience. My VW faults were major faults and made it an unreliable car in my opinion. But I've also had faults in other cars but not to the same degree. So I wouldn't class those faults as making the car unreliable.
