  • Hi Judy, Here's a photo of the main problem area. Its a close up shot. Its on the seat part of the setee that gets the most use. The rest of the suite is ok so far but obviously i dont want it to get worse. Do you think it would be ok if i gave it a good clean with a leather cleaner then put some leather protector on it? I use soap flakes on mine, they bring it up lovely.

    Hello
It appears that the top coat is beginning to break down. The best thing to do would be to clean well with a foam cleaner and then apply something to restore the colour (sorry I am not allowed to mention the product by name) then protect and this will help to prolong its life. Cleaning nod protection alone will not do this.

Please do not use soap flakes as these will leave a scum on the surface which will deteriorate the finish.

    Hope this helps

  • I just bought a second hand cream leather sofa. It was rather dirty so i came on here to get a few tips on how to clean it. I had baby wipes Huggies) so acting on this thread i used them. However this sofa was so grimy I needed bigger guns. I used sugar soap it worked really well :j

I'm really glad you managed to clean it .....

I have got a leather sofa and chair ..... I've had mine a while ......

Given the choice again .... i would never ever have bought one ! ..... I bought mine a few years ago .... and yes ..... they may look great when you 1st buy them ...... but it's only with time that you begin to see what they are really like ......

In the summer your " arris " slips and slides on it .... especially in the hot weather ! .... and in the winter it's bloody cold when you sit down on it ...... your bum feels like it is freezing ! ( maybe it's because i am a skirt wearer ... rather than trousers ? ) .

Given the choice again ... i would opt for a " material one " .

As far as i concerned ... personally speaking ... suites look great ... but the practicality side of them is zilch !

I have no idea why but we always used shaving foam and baby wipes on our old cream one and it looked as good as the day we got it until we got a kitten 11 years later! I now have a dark brown one and have to say the cleaning of it has lapsed compared to the old one! We inherited this one and I would love a material one next, but with 2 small children I just don't think it's practical yet
